Comment:

He is one of the rudest, most condescending, miserable instructors I have ever had. I actually left NAU because of him and the entire STEM dept. You can go to SI sessions and study all you want, but good luck. His entire attitude towards his students is horrifying and belittling.

Comment:

By far the hardest class I have ever taken. For my first exam I studied my but off and got a D on it. When I went to his office hours for help he said "obviously you aren't doing enough" and then proceeded to quiz me. I went to every SI session and studied more than you could imagine. His lectures are all over the place and very unorganized.

The actual worst professor I've ever had. I took notes on the lectures and listened in class and still didn't pass. He criticizes you for asking questions that he feels you should know the answer to, which then prevents anyone from asking questions. He does not teach you the material but instead talks about random irrelevant info. Good luck.

Comment:

He gets mad when the class doesn't understand the material and instead of trying to better explain the material he just gives pop quizzes to hurt your grade. One lecture was spent with him yelling at us. His lectures are also very disorganized.

Comment:

Not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Be prepared to work but because it's a science class and there's a lot of information to be learned. Go to his office hours because that is how I learned most of the material and got my questions answered. One on one, he's easy to talk to and makes the material easily understood.

Extremely rude and not very helpful. Makes you feel dumb every time you ask a question and his lectures are ridiculously detailed and hard to follow. The slides aren't very helpful and the tests are difficult.

You either like him or you don't. I had him both for BIO182/ Marine. His lecture were all over the place and hard to follow. I took him again on a subject he is truly passionate about thinking maybe he will teach it more thoroughly. Wrong! I feel like all he does is belittle us for not knowing anything instead of teaching. Test are HARD!

Comment:

Dr. Montgomery had a very little impact on my grade. His lectures were all over the place and you were more focused on writing the notes than understanding the lecture. What gave me a good grade was reading the textbook (every chapter) and attending SI sessions at least twice a week. This class is all self taught so stay away from this prof.

I can tell he cares for students but he won't lead you to believe so. He always bashes the student's "willingness to learn" because they could not answer some off hand question that he makes seem like common, must-know knowledge. He is a horrible test maker. Its hard to determine what exactly is going to be on the tests and the grammar/structure..

Comment:

Montgomery was a good professor. His power points were a bit hard to follow sometimes and you have to make sure your paying attention not only to the Power Points but to what he says, anythings he says is fair game for a quiz or exam question. He is funny guy, the work and exams are easily doable if you manage your time and pay attention.

Dr. Mongomery is not the nicest guy, he often makes students feel bad about asking stupid questions. He does not really follow the powerpoint so make sure to write down anything he says because it might end up on an exam. I wouldn't want to take an upper division with him, but he was fine for 182.

I took BIO 181 with Montgomery and I am so glad I had him as a professor. He dropped our lowest exam score plus like four of our lowest quiz scores, so as long as you did relatively well on each exam and quiz you were guaranteed an A. Pay attention to the little details and just put in the effort and you will do great. He's nicer than he seems.

This class gives a lot of information, and if you miss lecture you will be missing key information that is not given anywhere else. His tests are not multiple choice and are tough, and the quizzes are tough as well so try to go to SI sessions even though they have no clue whats on the tests. SI is your key to understanding concepts.

Professor Montgomery expects a lot from his students, I would not recommend taking it with him if you want an easy A. Although the class is tough, it's not impossible to get an A. It all comes down to reading, taking the quizzes and homework seriously, and studying.

Although he can be confusing in the way he presents his lectures, he pretty much takes the material from the lectures and puts them on the quizzes. So make sure you attend every class. He truly cares and wants to make sure everyone does well. Also, be prepared for fish stories in his class. Overall, I enjoyed his class.

You have to have to HAVE TO read to pass the class. Most of the lectures are pretty confusing and require you to read over the information to gain more in depth information. Asking him questions typically leaves me in more confusion, so I typically rely on the SI's.

Took this class taught by him and Professor Pollak and I really did't like the set up. He has a really weird sense of humor. He can sometimes make you feel stupid for asking questions making getting clarification something no one really wants to do. He lectures from a summarized powerpoint which isnt bad but he skips some info that you need to know

Should be able to take a few warped jokes if you're going to attend his class. I thought he was extremely funny, my girlfriend thought he was offensive. Seems a little harsh but as long as you don't ask him stupid questions (i.e. what is in the syllabus, when do we get our grade, etc.) then he is happy to help.
