Comment:
This is a teacher who says there are such things as stupid questions. If you ask a question, be prepared to feel like a moron for asking and he will then make the explanation even worse than before. He strictly prefers making you do math problems and you don't actually learn much genetic material.

By far one of the toughest classes I've had to take so far. This is not an easy course and if you are not prepared (take a few biology classes before jumping into genetics), it will be more tough. He is very helpful and extremely knowledgeable, so pay attention, read the book, and study the quizzes.

hey are ya looking for a good professor? Do you wanna pass genetics? WELL DON'T TAKE MECHLING. If you could use his class notes during tests and quizzes you would STILL fail. He is a horrible horrible horrible professor and takes notes like a 2 year old who needs to use the bathroom.

Here is the scoop with this professor. Genetics is a tough class and there are many little details to remember. He has been teaching this class for quite sometime so he does tend to move a little fast but he is very knowledgeable. He offers office hours and i would highly recommend them. learned a lot in the office. Don't be scared to take him.

This prof. was possibly the worse one I have had. He was so incredibly condescending to students, and I feel like I have learned nothing other than specific problems this semester. If you have the misfortune to take this prof, DO NOT skip recitation ever. If you enjoy memorizing pointless numbers and being insulted; this is the teacher for you.

Mechling is one of the worst bio teachers I've had at Towson. His notes are scribbles with no structureorganization and he mumbles a lot. Sometimes practice tests help, sometimes they don't. He tries to help, but many times he just comes off rude and condescending. Good luck if you get stuck with him

This is not an easy class, you need to be prepared to do work. If you don't it is your fault, not his. He is extremely helpful though, will answer any question you have as many times as you need. It is true he is hard to understand in lecture, but if you take notes, read the book and do the problems in the book you will be fine.

Read the textbook and do the problems at the end of the chapter. Not difficult if you attend class and recitation. Quiz just about every week on text problems. Tests are just like sample tests he gives. Takes the time to know his students. All around great professor. I recommend taking him

It's true: he mumbles & he scribbles & his humor can be acerbic. On t'other hand, he's brilliant at statistics: from raw data to first principles to slick solving shortcuts in one lecture. You MUST also do the problems:it's all cumulative, and the problems are based on drill, and just reading and depending on your steel-trap recall is not enough.

He is the ABSOLUTE WORST professor! TERRIBLE!!! Dont take his courses!!! Scribbles, mumbles, exams are impossible. half of the class for genetics dropped before the mid term! Exams are UNCLEAR, and absolutely impossible to finish within the given time.

Mr. Mechling is one of the worst teachers you could possibly have. Every bad review you see here is true. He is highly unorganized, his tests are impossibly confusing and his class is just an overall mess. AVOID HIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. For 309, which is a difficult course, if you take Mechling, you are sealing your doom.

Ok, his notes are scribble and you are better off sitting in the front to hear him clearly. But exams are based on the practice problems and more often than not the ones he goes over in recitation. If you're not falling asleep in lecture you can keep up notetaking just fine and he follows the book. It's hard work but a passable, interesting class.

If you can read scribble, this is the class for you. He's a very low and fast talker, his teaching style is more of hearing himself speak rather than engaging the students in the lessons. Find another professor.

Mechling is an absolutely brilliant human being. His ability to recall information, as well as the depth of a subject/process he can delve into is beyond most professors at Towson. His teaching style does consist of scratch marks on the projection screen. Just PAY ATTENTION and ENGAGE yourself & ASK QUESTIONS! You don't want to miss a class.

He is without a doubt the worst professor i have had to endure at Towson. His notes consist of him scribbling on a piece of paper and then taking it away before you can copy it. If you take him, be prepared to teach yourself the ENTIRE course because that's the only way you'll pass.

Mechling is all over the place. Overall, BIO 201 is a hard, and he makes it even harder. You never know what will be on the tests so study EVERYTHING. He cuts out random stuff that you may spend hours studying. Attendance not mandatory, but alot of the test is from his lectures. You can get a C or B if you study hard.. Idk if an A is managable..

I don't agree with his teaching techniques, but for all those people who say he is an automatic fail, they are wrong. Go to class and follow in the book, DO THE BOOK PROBLEMS, use the practice test, and use the book website for solutions to the problems. helps a ton...it's not easy but it's not impossible either...

The worst professor I have ever had. He will just scribble on some paper and that will be the notes for the class. I do not recommend him for genetics
