If you're looking for a quality discussion and written midterm English class, this is not it. This class is ridiculous. Prof goes on random tangents and we rarely discuss texts in their entirety. The tests are insane; they're elementary identification of quotes and who said it. And we had to watch a Woody Allen movie. This class is not it

The TA is literally the most useful person in the classroom. You could tell that Monroe was just kind of always off beat but she kept the entire class together even though she was sick. She was always there to help students & she really improved my writing with her feedback. Thank you Ness and Dean Monroe for a great Alienation class!

Dr. Monroe is a cool prof, but the TA grades everything and basically runs the class. She doesn't write grades on response papers and keeps everyone's grades on her personal laptop. There are pop quizzes, and the tests are arbitrary and difficult. If you can choose a different class, do it.

Cool prof but weird TAs... First one was good but with the second one it felt like I was in a completely different class. Fun discussions but class needed better structure

Easy class and interesting subject which I enjoyed a lot. Teacher is cool but it wasn't very open discussion. Would take again for the teacher.

His lectures are engaging, interesting, and related to the topics given. He's a pretty decent professor overall and have no complaints about him. However, I didn't really care for his class, but it was probably because of the students in it. They all seemed like they were full of themselves. Weird.

Dr. Monroe is "one of the good guys", as they say. He doesn't seem preoccupied with other things in his professional career like a lot of professors. He is genuinely invested in giving his students a legitimate education, be it in literature or in life. Seriously, you are better off having taken a class from him. Now quit reading this and sign up!

Honestly a great guy and great prof. TA's are very helpful, and so is Dr. Monroe. For being the dean of the Honors college, he certainly makes a huge effort to be the one teaching the material. Super respectful of his students and an all around fantastic guy.

I loved this guy! Class is interesting and entertaining. Encourages participation and a fair grader. Readings are wonderful and films to go along with it! Just beware that it takes forever to get your final grade. I'm still waiting for mine. I'm an English minor and this is the only class so far that I'd take all over again if I could.
