Textbook is A MUST. 3 difficult exams throughout the semester that are split extremely unevenly. No final but the last exam is on over half of the textbook. You have to read every single chapter to succeed. 5 debate papers are an easy grade booster, though.

Not hard to get an A but need work. 5 papers and three exams with a debate. Textbook reading is required and he will ask everyone in next class about what you read. Grading is mostly done by TA, not very harsh. Exam is based on lecture and textbook and you have alot to read.

Definitely take Dr. Ray for senior seminar! Only 2 take home exams and 5 short papers, and a group presentation grading was easy if you put in some effort. Only about half the class showed up on a daily basis, and we often got out early. He also presented up-to-date material, so lectures were pretty interesting. Highly recommend!

Very interesting class, EASY exams. Very nice, helpful guy, but sometimes gives you a blank stare when you ask him a question.

Great teacher, lots of information and well versed on the material. Also, lots of helpful multimedia supplements to go along with the subjects covered in class.

Most everything is based on readings; the actual notes from class barely helped with anything. Decent guy, but not a great teacher.

I can't understand why anyone would say he's a terrible teacher. You do have to read the book to do well on tests, but he is funny, helpful, has really good stories, and is overall a really cool guy. I loved going to his class!

Why all the bad ratings?! His tests are easy, and he is undemanding, and a pretty nice guy. Sheesh what do you people want?

He's a decent guy, but you really need to be able to learn from your textbook. What he covers in class is usually a fraction of what's on the test. Debates and reaction papers are easy but fairly annoying.

This dude is not a good teacher. He actually seems to know what he's talking about but he does a terrible job of teaching...simply reading the lecture notes off the projector screen. Tests are hard because you gotta read the book and go thru lecture.
