When you put Weinert in front of a real choir that wants to sing for him, he's a fantastic director and a joy to work with. If only he could bring that to all of his choirs. That being said, he is also a wonderful person and has helped me so much.

VERY intelligent, and a good conductor. I feel bad that he has to deal with singers who are unwilling to learn techniques of CHORAL singing. Let's face it...you're not all going to make it as opera soloists...

He is fine at conducting but if you want a personality look somewhere else. He plays favorites big time and chorus is held in a godly place on high before all other things. Someone could have a gig at the MET and if god forbid it was on a rehursal day say goodbye to the gig.

Choir conductors get a lot worse at other schools. Lose the "Eastman attitude" and give him a break. Teaching and playing (or singing) are not quite one and the same. Wait and see.

I have nothing against Weinert personally, but I do not enjoy it when he conducts the orchestras. He's not an orchestral conductor and should stay away from it. He spends half the time telling us to play quieter when we play with ERC, which is 200 people.

The voice majors here definitely don't give him credit--he is so knowledgeable and he trys so hard, but voice majors don't give a hoot about choir, so they just rip on him. I think he's a great conductor.

Comment:

Eastman can't compare to the schools in New York City (Manhattan School of Music, Mannasse, Julliard) partly because of the choir director. It is a shame we could not have a first rate choral department here. The only thing worse is the conducting dept
