Dr. Stairs is quirky. That said, the class (PHIL209I) was excellent and the most interesting gen ed I've taken. It's a bit tricky especially if you are not familiar with vectors and a little bit of linear algebra though he teaches it. Stairs is a really nice guy and a good lecturer. And the lectures are certainly worth going to.

Jeez, I want to like this guy, I really do...maybe it's the course or something. PHIL209I was recommended to me by my adviser, Tom Gleason, but unless you've already taken Quantum Mechanics, it's a really boring, dull, baby probability class. Stairs does as much as he can to make it interesting, but there's only so much he can do.

Not everyone including myself and other class members felt that Stairs was a good professor - sorry this class was one of the most boring and non productive online classes that I have taken at my time @ UMUC. Think outside of the box - but the idea is thinking one way and one way only (secular) go figure...

Stairs taught an online class, and sometimes forgets to post class announcements and new assignments with deadlines without notifying the class. Pretty much on your own in this class. I thought that Philosophy was controversial but if was not Stairs way, the way he perceived the matter, then you were often wrong in your assessments. Boring class.

Explains material well, doesn't handle answering questions well. You ask him a question about the material or pose an opposition and you'll get "yeah yeah I suppose so, anyway..." and get back to the lecture. However he does teach the material well.

This professor taught a 300 person logic class, and did it very well. A math class as a lecture spells disaster, but he taught clearly, went over subjects until they became clear, and was, in general, just entertaining to listen to. I would recommend him!
