Professor Karmens lectures are very informative. 3 tests, 2 are take home and 1 is in class but its open book. Theres also a final paper and presentation which isnt so bad. Definitely recommend to take him! Best sociology class ive taken throughout college. Attendance also isnt mandatory

No textbook required for class. All readings are available on blackboard and listed by the week of the class for easier access. All tests were take home and if you take really great notes, you'll get a 100 for sure. His lectures are interesting. I do recommend using a tablet or laptop in this class for fast note taking and easy access for the tests

This professor is by far one of the most boring teachers I have ever had in my 5 years of college. He is very monotone and makes all of his lectures drag to pointless information. He isn't clear what he wants on his tests and then takes off points to make you look dumb. 2 take home exams (7 pgs each), one in class ON final, and one 8 page paper

I found this professor to be extremely demanding (3 take home exams, a research project, comprehensive exam and 3 eligibility assignments. He has high standards!! Lectures are interesting and he is available during office hours if you need clarification. I highly recommend him. But if you take him be prepared to work hard!

Great Professor who challenges your thinking. I had Prof Karmen for Graduate Work and he was an excellent speaker. Some students want answers but Dr. Karmen makes you think for the answer. Inspired me a great deal and still does since 1992.

The class isn't difficult, BUT the prof is extremely dry and repetitive in his lectures. Difficult to sit through for 2 hours. Would rather have taken a harder class with a prof that is more vibrant and interesting. Also, he doesn't clarify what he wants very well. Avoid if possible

i really liked this professor because he challenged me. HE IS A LOT OF WORK 2 at home essays(as exams), an in class final (can use your notes) a research paper (8 pages) and you must show interest and participate a lot so he considers you a smart person and very important to the class. take him if you are willing to deal with the work. i got an A-

The professor is very nice! I was pleasantly surprised the course was kept interesting, the professor i think is an excellent professor. The course was not hard at all, as long as work gets done; although attendace is not "mandatory" it is very helpful because his exams come from examples, etc done in class.

This prof has a book Murder Mystery. Read the book and understand the concept of Right Wing versus Left Wing perspectives you will have a better understanding of the lectures. Really does his job. Work hard get an B+ Have to pay attention in class. Ask questions and can really learn about CRJ from him.

Horrible professor and extremely unfair. Does not state what he wants in papers and then takes off lots of points. DOES NOT HELP WITH COMPall you learn all semester is what is liberal, conservative and crime control...Didn't even grade the final.. had final grades the next morning after he had to grade the rest of his other classes. Unfair grader because he is not clear with the directions for his two essays. Very confusing and never really gets his point across. Classes are very boring and drawn out. Knows his stuff but is not a great teacher. He is a nice guy though
