Comment:
Dr. Shuttleworth is a really good professor. Lectures consist of discussions over the readings, as long as you show up you'll be fine. There are no exams or quizzes, your grade consists of 4 essays over the 4 books you read. He is a very understanding that this is not the only course you're taking and takes this into consideration when grading.

Dr. Shuttleworth is my favorite professor that I have had throughout three years at OSU. I took English 2261 (Intro Poetry) with him in the spring semester, and his selections and discussions were perfectly varied. Many students in the class were there for the easy GE, but I am passionate about the material. Three essays, one in class.

I really appreciate the insight Dr. Shuttleworth has! He does talk the entire class time, but when you're able to listen he makes valid points. Very chill guy, easy grader. Only 2 papers and a midterm which is wonderful. Overall, if you can sit through lectures and catch his main points, you'll be good to go.

Dr. Shuttleworth gives amazing insight into literature! It makes you look at the world in an entirely different way and gives a lot of insight into life! The class made me truly appreciate literature! He lectures a lot but his lectures are very interesting!! He's a very reasonable grader. An amazing class that I would take again! (Eng 2202H)

Extremely light course load. There were two essays outside of class and one in class essay for a midterm. Dr. Shuttleworth will talk for the entirety of the 1h20min lecture without stopping. It can be incredibly dull at times. Overall, it's an easy class, you'll just have to suffer through long lectures.

Shuttleworth is a funny guy. His lectures are VERY long and boring but he'll crack a joke here and there. Nobody really pays attention everyone just sits on their laptops & does other homework. 2 papers and an in class essay. Very very easy and he gives amazing feedback. He's a great guy, just extremely boring.

He definitely knew his stuff, but classes were mainly just him talking the entire time & were reallyyy easy to zone out. However, the class was extremely low work - 2 papers which he gives good feedback on, a midterm which was just an in-class essay, and virtually no homework. Not needed to buy the book.

AMAZING! Best prof. in the dept! Great feedback on papers, consistently passionate in the classroom, genuine character. Great communicator, very willing to meet in office hours to discuss material more or explain material differently. Unique combination of art and poetry during lectures. Always interesting. Endlessly knowledgeable about 30's.

Great, passionate prof. Gives excellence feedback on papers and midterm (in-class essay). Great reading selections. He's clearly a prof that wants to be there and wants to help his students succeed. His teaching style is wonderful: some lecture, some visual aids (he is interested in relating art to the poems). I would *hands down* recommend!!

He cares about teaching; he just isn't particularly good at teaching in an engaging way. He'll probably never give a paper higher than an A- but participation should make an A possible. Just be prepared for incredibly boring lectures and slightly above average commentary on papers.

If you do not favor traditional english-style discussion this class is for you. The majority of the period is spent by him talking. You can get away with not reading. Only buy novels, all other material/poems you can get online and save money. He is a lenient grader and gives good feedback. And yes he has a British accent, making it all worthwhile.

On the positive, he's a nice guy, very smart, he grades fairly, and his comments on papers are helpful and in-depth. However his lectures are impossible to follow, and often boring. Very little discussion, which is very off-putting for an English class. His ideas will be the only ones you'll hear.

by far the most brilliant mind for english literature of any teacher i've ever had! i highly recommend this professor. i found his lectures fascinating and eloquent. the work load was low: only 2 papers and an in-class essay for the midterm. his comments on my papers were thoughtful and helpful. take his class- you won't regret it!

He has to be one of the most boring professors I have ever had. His book choices were great for the most part, but discussions were rare, and his lectures were terrible. He knew his stuff, but I don't know if he should be teaching.

This was my second class with him and I must say there was no disappointment. If you're looking for easy, this isn't necessarily it. If you're interested in actually learning something, this is the professor for you. He gave thoughtful consideration to my work and I learned a great deal from my time with him.

He is very helpful, and i really learned a lot. go to class, read the poems, you'll be fine. one 3-4 pg paper, midterm is in class essay, final is 5-6 page paper. i highly recommend him to anyone for any class.

Great prof! sometimes the discussions seemed never-ending, but he was very good at allowing students to see all sides of an argument. I would definitely recommend him...he was extremely helpful and fair when grading essays.
