Dr. Fuchs is a good professor. He works everything out right in front of the class, from scratch, rather than regurgitating the material from a power point. I would take him again.

Comment:

He's a really cool guy. I like how he gives less exams (because then you can focus on other classes too). I wish he'd go a litttttle slower, and I wish he'd break down the steps more on his solutions. Or say " at this step I'm doing (blank). I realized I understood the mathematics, but I had to translate his solution. I'm like what am I looking at!

Comment:

Professor obviously has an enormous weath of experience in this field. Grade revolves on only two exams, both are take-home and very representative and fair. The book (written by him) is very clear, but so are his lecture notes. Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended. I wish there was a 6000 class to follow up with.

Not what I hoped for, somewhat of a let down. He's an expert in class mech but not the best teaching method. Spent hours studying & barely passed. Final exam had 3 questions, each w 7-8 parts. He threw in a "SURPRISE!" question (nobody expected it or knew how to solve it), which I think was unfair given it was 33% of the grade. My only B at FAU.

Comment:

Classical mechanics is a pretty tough class and is VERY math intensive. So having a shaky grasp of any math from trig to calculus 3 and linear algebra will present a severe impediment. I found the lectures interesting and engaging with some useful diversions (hyperbolic functions, tautochrones etc). Textbook was used mainly for homework.

I did really well in this course, but I taught myself. This guy has no clue how to teach. Big disappointment. Don't bother if it's an optional course. Just buy strogatz and enjoy.
