Superb. He makes you look at an issue from every direction. I didn't agree with him on a lot of things, but he allowed multiple viewpoints. He was invaluable in my studies and career

In the student newspaper class, he didn't do much. His critiques ended early in the semester and the students largely ran the class. He also wasn't clear at all about grades and never returned anything we turned in, which had everyone concerned about their grades at the end of the semester. It was his last semester, so maybe he just didn't care.

He's had a very successful and storied career in journalism, but that doesn't make him a good lecturer. In fact, he's quite terrible. Never returns anything and he's rarely in class (leave the talking/teaching to the student editors). On top of that, you think you've done everything you need to get a decent grade and BAM!! He only gives you a "C."

Undoubtedly qualified to teach a Journalism ethics course, and his tangents/stories are entertaining, but with 2 online mid-terms & 1 assignment it felt as if the assigned readings were unnecessary as was going to class at all. Good guy, class, meh.

Classes are extremely boring. He doesn't make sense in his teachings and allows discussions to go on too long. Midterm was easy, some group work and tons of pointless lectures. Nice guy, but bad teacher. A class like has potential to be fun and interesting, but he makes it dull. Go to class- his opinion questions will be on the test.

THE WORST TEACHER EVER! He takes forever to return papers, never comes to class on time yet expects students to, and is just totally useless. A total waste of time, doesn't know how to teach. You would learn more from jumping off the Golden Gate than taking his class.

Austin has a strong background in journalism, but he's not the best teacher. His ethics class was usually dry and many students treated it as naptime. He assigns a lot of reading, but his tests can be easily aced if you have a good common sense.

Took Reporting with him. He expects only the best from you, and is a hard grader, but then takes forever to return your paper. Very egotistical and a bad teacher.

Ethics with him is boring, and Reporting is really no different. You don't even need to go to class, and don't expect to get your articles back when you submit them. He's a good guy and an awesome advisor, but as a teacher, there was something missing.

BORRRRRING!!!! Never opened my book. Didn't assign HW. Only had one 2 page paper and some group work. Midterm and final were common sense questions, didn't need to study, they are open book/note. Class is required for Jour major, but please bring something to entertain you cuz you will fall asleep! Nice teacher though. Smart guy, just boring.

long-scott one the best profs in the debt (along with wilson). brings his wisdom to class discusions, and keeps them flowing well. i was afraid this class was gonna be awful (like azocar 610) but long-scott is an accomplished, interesting, and charasmatic individual.

OK, the other two reviews were for ethics, which I also took with Austin, but ethics is really too big a class to get to know him, so I'll take the Reporting perspective. I had him for Reporting (a class that starts big and ends small) last semester, and his vast experience in the field makes for a great opportunity to learn from him. He's also good at recognizing potential. Students who only have him for ethics might mistake his mellowness for lack of enthusiasm, but he does have passion for journalism.

Interesting class, likeable guy. However, he was a little unorganized and relied too much on class participation, which resulted in lots of awkward silence. He even cancelled our final project, because he couldn't think of one. However he kept things interesting to those who wished to get involved.

This class is pretty boring, but easy. Make sure to come every day to get the handouts. You really need the book to get good grades on the tests. Long-Scott is a cool guy with a lot of experience in the journalism field. He might be a bit dry on the lectures though.

Austin is a journalist. Period. He knows journalism, and if he seems disinterested, it's because he leaves decisions up to students; forces them to think for themselves.

What could be an interesting class is lost by prof's lack of enthusiasm. Seems like he is bored/ doesn't care: monotone, re-reads assignments to class. Unfortunately, J majors must take this class. known for being an easy teacher. U learn most from book.
