It's not hard to get an A as long as you do all the work. He's responsive to questions and I haven't had any issues with him being a tough grader. Read the instructions and do what it says- you'll get an A. Quizzes are a breeze once you figure out his style. There is no reason not to do well on them esp since theyre open book. Lots of papers.

Comment:

My frustration for this class grows by the week. The asinine amount of homework will drive even the calmest person insane. This is an intro humanities elective. WHYYYYYYYY are 3 papers a week plus 1-2 quizzes a week the standard. This is the most frustrating class I've ever taken.

Barry is likely a nice guy and the class isn't hard, per say. But it's incredibly tedious. You will write at LEAST 2-3 page papers per week, sometimes 2. You have 2 quizzes a week, 3 concert reports (2-3 pages and mandatory attendance at jazz ,etc. type concerts). And a final 4-5 page paper. It's brutal. He's not clear in his grading at all either.

This class has an insane amount of busy work (2-3 papers a week plus 1-2 quizzes a week) PLUS 3 mandatory concerts you have to attend & write a paper for. Too much work for an intro music class. Also, no clear grading criteria. Will dock random points for small errors and will give 100% for a huge error. I can't figure this guy out.

I have several years of education and this class takes the cake in both workload and expectations. If it were human anatomy, sure, but it's an into level humanities elective. You'll write 2-3 multi page papers each week + a quiz or 3. Teacher provides no feedback beyond name dropping. I met with the Dean; that helped. I suggest others follow suit.

He doesn't give you any understanding from my experience. I'd ask for help on reasonable things and the answer is just no. Concert reports were brutal and so were his discussion. If you didn't understand basic music theory enough he would come down on you pretty hard for an intro course. I just never felt like he really cared.

Terrible teacher. Would never take a class taught by him again. Unclear in directions, expectations, and assignments. Grades way too hard for giving no instruction.

I enjoyed this class, instructions were well explain, assignments were associated with the book, and professor answered all the questions students made. I felt respected and encouraged to continue with the class. Excellent teacher; interesting class.

Cool,fun class. Learned a lot about music. High volume of work, expect about 2 quizzes and 3-4 assignments a week which can include anything from analyzing music to typing biographies. Instructor was clear and was available for help when needed. Warning: School will not buy back the textbook used for this class

This teacher had required a lot for this class and the work load was extreme in my opinion for a 5 credit class. I have taken other 5 credit classes that weren't as extreme as this one. I also felt that the teacher was not flexible with his grading in extra projects. He was extremely rigid in his expectations in my opinion.

You best check your ego at the door. This guy will ask you questions on the material in front of the class. It's music, It's about performance. If you don't know the answer it's tantamount to playing a bad note on a solo performance. Mr. Ehrlich makes you learn it and motivates you! I loved his teaching style.

Took his online class and did pretty good! That's exactly true, you get what you put in. He's very helpful and understanding. If something can't work out for you, he'll give you other options. Even though I have to interest in music, I still did good.

I agree, Barry is exactly what a professor should be. He sets a high standard, which will make you feel good when you get a good grade back. He is very fair with partial credit for things. I learned a lot from him, even though I'm not into music at all.

barry can be a bit intense, but he definitely does his best to make sure you know your stuff. as long as you're respectful during class and pay attention, he'll be glad to help you understand things you're having trouble with, which always seemed more than fair to me.
