You really learn a lot in his class, which is important because ACCT1A sets the foundation for future classes. Tests were tough, but he drops the lowest score which is nice. Also offers 20 extra credit points. Homework is not mandatory, but you can't score high on the tests if you don't complete it.

If you really want to learn accounting, then professor Urell is a good choice. He seems very intimidating during class,but his lectures are pretty good and a lot of materials are covered in the class. There are a lot of helpful materials on Canvas. Homework is not graded, but if you don't complete them then points are deducted from test.

Comment:

Urell is tough but is really effective at teaching you how to approach accounting. He can be intimidating during class but is truly kind if you speak to him in private. There is a lot of material so lecture moves by quick but he always covers everything we need. Focus on calculations and formatting from problems in class and review his videos.

He is extremely difficult with his test. No partial credit and homework is necessary and it takes hours to do. If you want to save your GPA do not take him. If you do, it is better to learn the chapter before going into class. Get a tutor to help you because he expect you to know most of the concepts at the beginning of class.

During class orientation he said I am not on either of his class list in regardless of the fact I successfully enrolled his class before semester begins. Later he sent me an email, said that I did not attend class orientation. I can't believe this mismanagement is done by an accounting professor. I don't recommend to take his class.

Professor Urell really makes you work and the class sessions can be very intense. I took him for Accounting 1A and spent hours doing all the homework every week during the semester. In order to pass the class, you would probably need to be ahead and make sure you do not procrastinate at all. HIS EXAMS TAKES THE WHOLE 2 HOURS OF CLASS! Be prepared.

he needs to GO! he needs to retire or something so he can stop ruining the lives of innocent students who just want to move on from community college. he is ridiculously hard and will deduct so many points for one small error. you can put 120% effort into his class and still fail! do yourself and your GPA a favor, do not take him.

Tough grader but totally doable to get an A if you put in work. May seem intimidating in class, Professor Urell is pretty chill when you talk to him in person. He teaches the material well.

Okay so if you plan on taking accounting, just beware it is extremely time consuming regardless of who you take it with. 5 tests and one final, which are pretty much your whole grade. He offers 20 points extra credit which boosted my grade 4%. Its a hard class but he really makes sure you understanding the basics of accounting.

Does his best to give you the materials needed to succeed in his class. HOWEVER, the difference between taking tests online and the final in person was brutal. I was destroyed. I averaged a 95% on his online tests and got a 65% on the final. Just be sure to do ALL the work and get As on them! He's very fair on attempts to complete your work.

HW takes hours and you HAVE to do it or else test points are taken off. He moves extremely fast in class and expects you to retain the information. Wrong answers during lecture are not acceptable to him. Dont take his class if you have other hard classes. All your time is spent studying for this class. Hes more of a drill seargent then teacher.

Amazing teacher! But very tough grader. Five unit exams, one final. 20 extra credit points only. A bit hard to talk to, calls on you to participate but very kind if you talk to him personally. Funny. DO NOT MISS ANY CLASS or you'll be left behind.

DO NOT TAKE URELL. This is the hardest class at IVC. You spend hours doing homework that does not help you. If you miss the homework automatically 15 points is deducted per chp. No partial credit on exams. Even if you have the slightest of hope of passing, you're not. I spent hours studying but it was no help. So if you take his class good luck (:

He is really good at teaching accounting, but if you are not planning to become an accountant I suggest you take another accounting class. He is VERY strict, he gives a lot of homework, and his tests are very tough.

This is not an easy A but he's the type of professor that makes you work for your grade. Yes the reviews are true he calls on you, you have to do your homework, and it can be kind of intimidating but hey you're in college now. He challenges everyone and tries to get to know you by name. He's the most hardworking, caring professor at IVC. Study up!

I took his class because I saw some good reviews about him and that he can be nice but .. lies ! He calls on you, you cannot be late, cannot take the test if you do not do hw (which does not count for your grade but cant take the test if you do not finish it). The hw takes long time and he can be mean and very intimidating in class.
