An utter disappointment as a teacher. Even when he did decide to show up, which was rare, it was lesson in self delusional arrogance. It was an insulting waste of time and money, as well as the easiest professor I've ever taken.

If you are one of his 'favorites' you may get some perks but most of the time, you only get empty promises. You won't learn anything about writing (there is no editing, re-writing or developing of your ideas). Empty credit but an easy A. Ask him and he'll tell you that you can't teach anyone how to write and that's how he teaches.

Brian Lane is the most dedicated Professor at CSULB. I have never learned so much about writing or about myself. He makes you think and explore parts of your thought processes that you didn't think were possible. He is available 24/7, I mean it, you can call him anytime and he will help you.

i was excited when this class started but overall i felt disappointed. He seems to have favorites and most classes invovled him just talking about what he's done. plus the one character he brought in to teach us how to pitch a life story was just wrong. i would not take him again. waste of my money. slackers might enjoy his classes.

Here is an indication of this teacher's professionalism: I enrolled 4 his winter class and he taught a total of 0 DAYS. His associate was forced to teach us off the top of his head, which resulted in the class learning nothing of value. Then we saw him on the last day of class hanging out in the food court with other members of the faculty. AVOID!

Lane has been an atorney and a writer for television and knows a lot about the field. He helps students get other experiences not just from class. He is less structured than some teachers, but that's good for me because I prefer to be hands on and not just have a lecture. He's really helpful and very available.

Dr.Lane got knocked on here for being an easy grader, but it's because he respects mature students who decide to commit to our work and get what we want from a class. He is available 24/7 - you can call him all night long for help. He's brilliant, fun, totally dedicated, goes out of his way to help, and he truly cares, unlike many profs. He rocks!

You'll think Lane is awesome, especially if you're a liberal, but it's what's inside this guy that is most frightening. He's a lawyer. Students who love him have been manipulated by him. His class is totally useless, even if you do the assignments (which I did). Really easy b/c you don't have to ANYTHING - if he likes you, you get an A.
