Comment:
Made a very complicated subject relatively clear. Has a great deal of knowledge and experience in the field. He's an older guy, so the course might move a little slower than most and he does tend to repeat himself; but overall one of the better classes I've had at Temple Law.

I genuinely liked Burton Caine. He's a caring professor who wants his students to understand and will meet whenever. That said, I was disappointed in my experience. Lectures were unclear and he tried to tease people into Socratic dialogue only to find that everyone clammed-up, not wanting to engage his far-out prompts. Exam was take-home.

class was an just under 2 hours, maybe 20 minutes of that time was relevant. super boring. most of the class is just about peoples opinions, which i didnt care to hear. too much reading. totally uninterested. terrible experience.

The professor lacked clarity and was unhelpful during office hours. He doesn't take attendance and I stopped reading for class halfway into the semester. The exam was take-home and fair - I managed a B+.

He doesnt really take attendance; doesnt care if you didnt read the case; and gives a take home final. Best professor at Temple. Buy the Emanuel, dont bother with the book. I didnt read a case all semester and got an A. If law school is your identity and ur looking for a "great, engaging" prof look elsewhere. If looking for an A its here

Horrible! He wasn't familiar with the case excerpts in the book, refused to answer direct questions, even when asked twice or more, and didn't motivate anyone in the class, at all. Had heard good things, so was fairly disappointed...avoid like the plague.

He takes a subject which has potential to be uninteresting and makes it the most important thing in the world to you. His views on the subject matter are clear but he respects and encourages other opinions. Of the classes I had first year, his got me to understand more than any other. Pay attention and fight back and you will learn something.

Mixed feelings about him. There were some nice class discussions but he does seem to throw his own opinions into the mix quite often. Very funny how he only called on a handful of people the entire semester (unfortunately I was one of them). It seems he only sees and calls on the people who sit on the end of the rows for some reason.

Manages to be really knowledgable and totally useless at the same time. Confuses teaching actually con law with (his) con. theory and then demands something on the exam that few if any are able to deliver. Offers assistance during office hours but still manages to make little sense. Could be e very detrimental to any first year student.

Extremely painful semester and final exam. He is an enormous hypocrite - he claims to be an open minded liberal but only accepts what he believes to be true and grades accordingly.

It was a long miserable semester with a ton of reading. He is extremely liberal and preaches about being open minded when in reality if it is not what he wants to hear he will be much more inclined to find problems with it and give you a lower grade.

I am very liberal and was still offended by his ridiculous left-wing rants (which consumed the majority of classes). He ignores cases and statements that contradict what he is saying. His suggestions are incomprehensible and completely unhelpful. Avoid him if you can.

ugh. openly opinionated, which can be tolerated... unfortunately, also incoherent over half the time. definitely makes you think, but don't rely on his interpretations since he often mis-states cases. may put you to sleep, may make you cry, won't ever teach you how the law works in the real world. but hey, he's certainly got personality!

Sure he's a stinkin' liberal...but he knows his stuff. You don't have to agree with him anywhere but your final. Come prepared and go on the attack, the night goes much faster. He;s no more or less a lunatic than Rush Limbaugh. Enjoy.

Comment:
Taught half from the text and half from experience. Tends to get off on a tangent, but is entertaining. When he's focused, you really learn. And he reinforces salient points with repetition and review. Ties the class together nicely.
