Comment:

I really enjoyed Professor Stessman's class! He handwrites notes during lecture, so it's easy to keep up taking your own notes. You will need to buy a Smartworks access pass. You're graded on 3 midterms, 1 final, Smartworks grade, and discussion grade. He cares about students and will go over anything you ask in lecture. I definitely recommend him!

Comment:

Class involves just lectures, note taking, and Smartworks5. He provides examples that make the lectures not as boring. His test primarily come from notes that you take and also check blackboard for his previous exams because he would use some of the same questions. If you get stuck on the SM5 questions, you can go to office hours for help.

Comment:

Dr. Stessman has to be one of the best organic chemistry teachers on this planet. He is also extremely nice and is great if you need help with anything course-related. Office hours are great. Took him for both lecture and lab for o chem 1 and he was a fantastic teacher. Put in the work and you'll pass the class, do recommended book problems.

Dr. Stessman is a solid lab instructor. His criteria for what he wants is fairly straightforward and the lab quizzes are no surprise as they are based on the lab reports from the week prior so ideally the information is fresh still. A little difficult to make conversation with, but very knowledgeable.

Comment:

Dr. Stessman is great at explaining and answering questions. His notes are very clear and make sense. Studying is a must to pass the tests, but he does curve them on occasion. Would strongly recommend taking his class, will definitely take another course with him again.

Comment:

This course is tough over the summer, especially if you're working. Chad is an easy grader and he offers extra credit when the class does poorly on an exam. In lab, he is laid back and not particular about the procedures or minor mistakes. The lab quizzes are extremely difficult so study ahead of time. Also, he does NOT curve the ACS so study!!!

Comment:

Stessman is really nice & humble. He cares about his students, and is accessible outside class. If you are struggling, form a study group, go to tutor- find ways to learn and memorize the material, and to pass the class! In class, it is true he doesn't make much eye contact but that's because he's shy/nervous, but he's a cool professor.

Very cool professor, but his lectures can be very confusing. Does not really give eye contact which makes it hard to engage and follow what he is saying. His tests were the hard part, 20 questions and whole lot of material to cover. Do practice problems from the book!!

Dr. Stessman is very smart and his lectures are pretty good but his exams are very tough. I made the mistake of taking O Chem II with 2 other science classes but there were several exams where my classmates and I walked out feeling like we were severely unprepared. Make sure to practice and memorize as much as you can.

Professor Stessman was a great lab instructor. He made lab stress-free while learning a lot. Some of the lab reports were extremely difficult. If you put in the effort by coming to lab prepared and spending time on preparing your lab reports then you will do great in his lab.

This was a pretty easy class. Consisted of quizzes every other week but you were allowed to use a cheat sheet for them. No midterms, just a final (once again we got to use a cheat sheet). Did a good job of explaining things but if it got confusing he would go over it multiple times just to make sure we got it.

BIG BONUS: You can use a cheat sheet for all quizzes and they are only 10pts each. All hmwk is also 10pts each and review what will be on the quiz. NEGATIVE: the final was hard and even with the cheat sheet it was confusing. Work hard o the hmwk and quizzes and go into the final with an A, just in case you bomb it. Nice guy, fun class.

Dr. Stessman is a great professor, and will help you if you ever have any questions. He is somewhat quirky, but that just makes the class more fun. The class consists of 5 quizzes, a poster, service learning project, and a final (but they are all pretty easy). Overall, a fun but informative class.

Comment:

Stessman is great. Very easy to follow along in his lectures, if he goes too fast just tell him and he will slow down. The worksheets in class will help you to understand so if you don't quite get it just hang in there till he goes over the worksheet. There are some weekly quizzes, but you can have a cheat sheet. Overall pretty good professor.

Comment:

I had him for the discussion and it was pretty easy considering the rest of the class. He is very helpful although he is kind of hard to follow along with sometimes. We had a short quiz every other week but it was straight from the homework and we got to use our notebooks. I definitely recommend his discussion!
