He's a nice professor but the class is just boring. Doing the reading will help in the class especially for the exams. I didn't really try and was surprised that I got a B.

Philosophy can be a difficult subject for many, but this professor helps to break it down to simpler terms so that the students are able to understand it. He is funny, caring and gives informationall lectures. 10/10 would recommend. Inspired me to take more philosophy class even if it's not pertaining to my major

I really appreciated his approach to the class. If you are not good at argumentative writing, don't take him. I rarely attended class but when I was there I contributed to the discussion immensely and made sure to read and understand the material before class. I was surprised to get an A in the class because I didn't work for it.

Be prepared to read at least 20 pages of material a week and write three papers which are the lump of what you are graded on for the whole class credit. unclear directions and guidance. May be a good class for someone thats ok with just barely passing without doing a lot of work but don't expect to get an A in this class..

Chris Nagel is one of the best professors I've ever had. He mad me completely change my mind on school and how to teach in philio of ed. He has a phd and you can tell. he treated us as equals and let us structure the class. One essay and a few response papers. Taking another class with him nxt semester . Total stoner.

He is passionate about philosophy and you can tell by his lectures. Attendance is required for participation points, which involves sitting in groups and talking to other students. His grading on papers is critical and he is unclear of what he wants on the papers. Tough professor, but you walk away with more knowledge than you had before.

Awesome professor!! Not a philosophy major and loved this class. You have to write 3 papers but they are not too bad. I would definitely recommend!

Awful. Expects far too much for what the class is (3 units upper GE), and forget having a dissenting opinion. Has told students they are wrong, in class, in front of the whole class. Tells the class they lack critical thinking, yet somehow we've all made it this far. Tons of reading, vague essay prompts and no real lecture or discussion. Skip him.

He is actually a great professor, but if you can avoid this class do so. It is just additional stress that is not necessary. He assigns short essays which are easy and assigns two longer papers. The longer papers are very difficult. His instructions are not clear on those. On the first longer paper, a lot of people failed. Good luck!

Full disclosure. This class is hard and you will have to apply yourself. He grades in relation to your understanding of the core concepts and interpretation. This class will require you to understand, read and respond to material. However, Nagel does a great job at making the subject easier to understand by using real world concepts in a fun way.

Although the material itself is somewhat difficult to comprehend, he is a good teacher with good intentions and a knack for making you perceive situations in a new light. The course did not involve too much work, and the work itself was fairly engaging. If you ask for help, you'll get it, and he is intimidating but great at what he does

Class takes different approach to learning when it comes to course material and lectures. I found this twist very refreshing. Lectures and discussions were not super structured which was nice and gave the class a relaxing feel. Power point teaching is getting old and unsuccessful, he realizes this. Overall great instructor.

Used textbook. Read about 8 philosophers. Interesting. He is very unique. liked the class. Response papers were not hard to do. Attending class gave notes on what to use in response papers. Midterm & Final were 1/2 (MC/T&F/ShortResponse) and other 1/2 Essay. Readings help immensely. Let us use our book for the two tests. He's reasonable and helpful

Attendance isn't technically mandatory but you need to go in order to understand what's going on. You wont need to purchase a textbook but you will be reading at least one paper (varying 3-15 pages roughly) at least once a week. Quizzes aren't too hard if you pay attention in class. The three papers were the hardest thing, takes critical thinking!

I highly recommend you avoid this teacher at all costs. He is very unorganized with class notes, often created in class. These notes are deleted. The expected caliber of work for a GE course is outrageous. If you miss class you miss any announcements for the course he will not notify you of any thing quiz or assignment more than once.

He encourages participation but doesn't call on people. He expects that you've read the material. He has the readings on BB to save money. Have to write 4 papers and one term paper. He wants to see that you've really thought about the information. Not an easy-breezy GE class.

Pretty knowledgeable guy. The class was easy (no tests, no homework, etc) but he makes you write a lot. Occasionally went off into political rants about the 1% and stuff like that, but other than that he had nice, relaxed lectures and had a good system of group work that let you discuss with your peers and yet still learn what he wanted you to.

He is a very good teacher. Yes he is a hard grader but is very helpful. He does not just give you an easy A you have to be willing to work at it. We just had to write four papers and there is no textbook.

Felt like I was taking a graduate course. Way too much work for a GE class. You have to be willing to do a lot of writing and reading to have a chance at a decent grade. Really nice guy and good teacher just has unrealistic class standards.
