Comment:
First off, Geggus is a very smart and nice professor. Write a lot of notes in class and makes friends with other people so that if you miss a day they can write for you. Exams straight out of lectures so if you miss notes you're screwed. He is a fair essay grader and if you need help he will happily help your grammar.

Positives: Fair grader, extremely knowledgeable about his field and the study of history. Negatives: Not a nice teacher, doesn't have much respect for students, quick to shut down an answer if it isn't EXACTLY what he's looking for. VERY discussion-heavy.

Comment:
Dr. Geggus is a terrific lecturer and leading scholar who will give you a thorough understanding of Caribbean history. He is personable if approached and supportive of your research interests, but you will have to be an excellent note-taker to do well in his class. I strongly recommend him if you care for the material and learn well by listening.

Geggus is old school. Meaning you'll have to pay close attention to lectures, and he expects you to have good study habits. Only grades are three exams and one final paper. So make sure you study. Start the paper early. Read the textbook, because it WILL give you a better understanding of the material in the course. Do all this, you'll learn a lot.

Geggus is a leading Caribbean historian, so no his class is not easy, but he grades on a massive curve (A=70%). 1 map quiz, 3 tests, and one 10 pg paper. a few of the people in my class held study sessions in lib west which drastically improved my test scores. attendance is mandatory, period. the readings get a bit lengthy. he's a great prof.

I had major issues with this man. He disregards the book and expects you to memorize his lectures, which are often hard to follow. He NEVER writes anything on the board or gives outlines. To top it off he was unfair when grading my term paper. He marked me off on vocabulary choices and things he didn't "agree with" even if the facts were cited.

This guy really likes the sound of his own voice. Uses his own strange, but surprisingly more lenient, grading scale. Can't get around showing up to class; his material is purely out of his mouth. Doesn't write much stuff on the board and what he does write is not organized. Start the term paper early. Note: Written by a computer engineering major.

Prof.Geggus is by no means an easy professor and his class is by no means an easy A. But it isn't difficult to do well in his class. Show up, take detailed notes and pay attention to what he is saying. The class is rather straight forward and Prof.Geggus is personable if you approach him with any questions or concerns.

Geggus is a tough professor, but he is good at what he knows. You have to go to class and pay careful attention to the lectures. Tests are very hard because there isn't a review. One research paper as well and he is a tough grader. Doesn't use the UF grading system which really stinks! He is very vauge, expects you to know everything already.

I gave him a D-, b/c apparently he failed to read the grading policy of the Univ. when awarding grades. There are no minus grades until the summer.....If you love sitting in the very front of the class and kissing royal a 5 5 to get a B+, by all means Geggus is your God.

You have to go to class if you even plan on getting a decent grade in the class. One of the hardest professors I've had. Everything is from the notes and you must write it all down, difficult to know what is on the test b/c there is no guide or review.

Comment:
LAH4472 is not easy. His tests come directly from his lectures, therefore you have to write down most of what he says in class. Since this is the case missing class and thus the lecture means a lower grade on the test. However he was very helpful with the term paper and if you do take notes from the lecture and study them, the tests are a cakewalk.

I think Dr. Geggus must be writing some of these reviews himself. I hated this class and couldn't understand his British mumblings half the time. No outline, study guide, or even highlighting important points. Just write down every single word he says and memorize every one, because he will choose the most random things on the test. F-

Geggus is quite possibly the most well-known and knowledgable professor in the department. His recommendation letters carry a LOT of weight. Additionally, he is a very fair grader because he knows that he has lofty expectations for students and compensates accordingly.

Dr. Geggus is the worst lecturer I have had at UF. He does not present the information clearly, but expects you to know mundane details for the exams. He is an easy grader, but I would not recommend taking any of his classes.
