Comment:
Brinkerhoff's 1410 course was a great introduction to C++. He clearly knows his stuff, and has been coding for longer than I have been alive. One criticism is that sometimes his methods can be somewhat outdated, but for this lower level course I do not think that is much of a problem. If you follow along the coding in class, the homework will be ez

Good guy, but needs to calm down with the readings. Should be considered to be an 8 credit hour class. Spent more time just reading than I did overall in my calculus and other CS class combined. Acts like he cares, but I get the feeling he just wants to ruin your desire to learn how to code, unless you're talented. Get ready to read & feel stupid.

I took this class online and found it pretty rough. His teaching methods were great to include videos and examples of programs that connected to assignments but test were hard and worksheets dragged on. I felt his grading was a bit harsh and frustrating. His textbook was rough to read and made assignments a little more challenging then anticipated.

Delroy asks a lot of trick questions, and he knows it. His online book that he wrote can be hard to follow and long winded, and the worksheets can take a bit of time. I BOMBED every exam but one but still ended with an A because I aced every assignment and hes a decent grader. Use the tutoring center. I went there instead of attending class.

Dr. Brinkerhoff is one of my favorite instructors. He will teach you to problem solve and not 'rote' memorization. All the material builds on each other and you will learn it in different ways: videos, worksheets, programming assignments. I put 3 for hardness because programming can be hard - Dr. Brinkerhoff will make it 'clear. I didnt use book

As far as a person goes, Brinkerhoff is pretty cool. However, in his online textbook, his lectures are extremely boring, and use a ton of technical verbage, sometimes making it difficult to understand. He's good at helping out promptly if you need it though. I respect him for making the textbook the class uses though.

Brinkerhoff is great! His lectures are a little dry, but he does his best with the material by slipping in a cheesy joke here and there. He clearly knows his stuff. Attendance is not mandatory as he'll tell you on day one. However, it's in your best interest to show up and take the class seriosly because it's not easy. I would take him again.

I really enjoyed the class. The large project is pretty fun and also a rewarding product at the end. He wants you to not only copy and paste code but KNOW what each line of code does and be able to write it. His videos thoroughly explore every topic covered in the class or point to more resources. The pacing is great. Stay on top of time management

I took 1410 and 3230 from Prof. Brinkerhoff. Lectures can be long and a bit dry. Programming assignments take a lot of time. Especially the final project which is a compilation of 4 labs (half the semester, DONT PROCRASTINATE). Grading scale is good. If you do poorly on the exams, you can still do well in the class. He sets you up to succeed.

Brinkerhoff is not a good teacher. His lectures are super dry and lack any sort of engagement. He's also memorized his videos, so the in-person class is almost verbatim of the online videos. Grading is amazingly easy, it's almost impossible to fail the class. I did not enjoy him at all, sheer willpower got me through his class. Watching paint dry.

Professor Brinkerhoff's assignments tend to test subject understanding rather than subject memorization. He provides everything you need to understand the subject, and as long as you use these resources it will be an easy A. I have never been more happy with the learning outcome I received from a class.

This class has more assignments than I have ever seen in any other single class. The professor's method of "teaching" consists of having students try to cram as much knowledge as possible in extremely limited amounts of time then do an overly complicated lab that only sort of relates to what the chapters discussed.

I was worried taking this class because of all the reviews, but I'm not sure what these people are talking about. He is a great professor. Tries to keep class entertaining and is good at explaining the material. His online book is actually nice, and he is easy to get a hold of outside of class. Just put some effort into the class. Would take again.

This class was great, Brinkerhoff really gives you everything you need to be successful. Look at all his examples he gives you in each module. They really help. Only portion of this class that I hate are the worksheets, I feel like they are useless aside from the fact that the majority of them are going to be on the exams.

Be prepared to work in this course. He assigns a lot of homework a week. The textbook he wrote is very confusing to understand. Due dates are on his time not yours. Some weeks require two assignments, lab, and a midterm. Don't recommend taking this course with any other courses. It requires all of your attention and time to not fall behind.

If you're taking the online course, you will be spending a lot of time reading through the book to try and figure out how to do all the labs, assignments, tests, and midterms. This course has 2-3 assignments each week. The instructions for the labs can be confusing and vague at times.

Comment:
Brinkerhoffs class was ok at first i felt like the first 9 chapters of the class were pretty standard but would be difficult for a beginner, however when you reach chapter 10 of his text book that he is writing (its a rough draft but he is using it to teach) everything falls apart. It was the most confusing course content and textbook at that point

Be prepared to get tutoring outside of class. Professor expects you to dedicate a ton of time. Frequent tests and homework assignments that require the textbook that he wrote. Confusing material and no feedback is given on missed lab questions. Teacher grades with unit tests instead of reviewing assignments. Avoid.
