Comment:

Diane Carlson is 75 so she's old school when it comes to technology but is a great teacher. She gives good feedback on papers. There are four papers with the opportunity to have 2 extra credit papers. Quizzes are the easiest quizzes as long as you read the assigned short essay. Midterm and final both consist of grammar and in class writing. Great!

She is a good teacher but her lectures are very boring and she gets off topic a lot. Her essays are simple but she grades very hard on grammar.

DON'T take her class if you are the student who wants to get in, get work done and get out. WAY TO MUCH lecture on crap SHE wants you to put into the essay and no room for imagination or what you actually felt about the story or play. Never in all my time at Sierra, have I actually had a night class teacher who held you until the very end of class.

She is caring and love to help for her students. She is easy teacher but, of course, efforts are needed. I got A even though English is not my first language. So if you are an English speaker, this class will be super easy. Go to class every time, and follow her instruction well. Then, you ALL can get A! I would like to take her ENGL1B class too!

Diane is a wonderful lady and professor. Only had 4 essays throughout the semester with a midterm, final, and weekly quizzes with only one question. "What did you like about the story" or "give me a specific detail from the story." However, her 3 hour lectures can be boring, and she's a little harsh on grading, but still easy to get an A.

She is a great lady and very nice. she will help you when needed. You just have to follow up on syllabus. But she is very harsh on grading essays. i have never recieved more than a B when i tried relly hard on them. She will find every little grammar mistake possible, even after I checked with a proffesional grammar-ist. harsh grader. good lady

I was initially leery of this class, but Prof. Carlson made it so interesting and enjoyable, I really enjoyed it. She's passionate about literature, poetry, and plays, and she inspires her students to be passionate about them as well. Great teacher. Never bought the book, used the internet instead.

She's a very nice lady. If you come to class, do the work, you will have an A. Her midterm and exam are pass or fail. So if you put effort in it, you will do great. Class discussions get a little boring but they're only the last part of class.

Prof. Carlson is a fair and easy teacher. She is more concerned with quality over quantity. She assigns essays that are two pages each, except the research paper, which is five pages. It is more important to her that you learn how to become a better write than fill up a bunch of unnecessary pages. She is funny and genuinely loves to teach.

Prof. Carlson is a genuinely nice lady. Unfortunately too many peole take advantage of her kindness. Her class is an easy a if you study and do the work. Essays are only 2 pages + 5 page research papaer. Quiz every week but they are super easy. Mid term and final include essay and grammer but everything is covered in detail in class.

Prof. Carlson is a great teacher! She is very clear about what is expected of you and will help you with anything you need. She is well organized, nice, and knows what she is talking about. Her class requires work, but it is not hard.

She is enthusiastic. For night class she lets us out 20 min If you are a decent writer, this is the class for you. 5 essays total. She reviews the stories super in depth before you write giving you quotes ideas and themes. Reading quizzes every week. Simple 1 question pass or fail like "what did you find interesting about the poem?"

I had this teacher Spring 2012. She is a pretty good teacher. She lectures on all the stories you read, so even if you don't read the story, her lecture will inform you on what it is about. She also prepares you VERY well for the midterm and final! She is not all that easy, but not all that hard. About average. probably would recommend.

She is the sweetest woman! very talkative and explains things to death but you will definitely come out of this class prepared for 1B. She gives quizzes at the beg. of class and they are very basic, also Pass or fail so be sure you know the material. Papers are short and simple. she's a grammar lady so be careful! :) Definitely take her!

Great teacher. She is very caring and wants you to succeed. At first I did not have any interest in this class and put off taking it. I am so glad I finally took it and that I had her for a teacher. I now enjoy writing. And I actually like the fact that her class starts on time and you have to turn assignments in on time!

You only have to write 2 page papers. Quiz on your reading right when class starts. She's not a fair grader though. Your quizes don't boost up your grade but will hinder them if you don't do them. Her grading is not based on points or %, it's based on how she feels about you. Horrible grader.

The best English teacher at Sierra. She wants her students to do well. Very easy! She is fair and very nice. It you want to do well in English take her. She is great.
