Comment:

Prof Barkin is truly caring, insightful, and old school. Attendance IS mandatory but she allows 3 absences, the school standard. I took two of her classes and would even take her again. Just visit her during office hours if you have any questions about assignments, follow the instructions CAREFULLY, participate, and you will really enjoy her class.

Comment:

Prof Barkin is a sweet lady and very understanding. Shes not a tough grader either and as long as you read enough and participate in class and arent late, you will do well. But she isnt the best with distributing the load of the work, so it would be wise to stay on top and communicate with her.

Shes too harsh with attendance. You could be physically dying and shed still mark you absent AND get upset over it. Shes not a bad person, shes sweet and all but she grades unreasonably. You could do all the work, do it well, and just get a B. She also seems to enjoy when students go hard to voice their rude, unreasonable opinions in workshop.

Maybe it's because I had her at 9:30 AM and could never seem to get there, on average, 15-20 minutes late to her class. But even when I did get there on time, the class is bland and not exciting. It made me question: Is College for Me? These required courses...

I took this professor for 2 classes and she was completely different in both. In one class she made it fun and as a student I was interested to come to class . But In the other she was not so fun she didn't teach us, instead she made us read books and then test us on them. If you aren't really Interested in english do not take her.

She is a nice professor that is really passionate about what she teaches. For a world humanities class, it was pretty eurocentric with only one assigned book being from outside of Europe. The class discussions aren't engaging but participation counts. Also, oral reports are the most time consuming part of the class, so be sure to have a decent one.

She's nice in behavior but not in case of grading. She's a very tough grader and sometimes she's unfair as well. gives, reading exams, 1 group paper with presentations, 1 term paper, and there are also individual presentations.

Surprised at her rating here. I thought she was fine. Her assignments and lectures were clear enough, she's available when needed, she's not mean or disrespectful. Any English major should be able to scratch an A-grade from her.

Tough but fair grader. You have to earn an A. Avoid if youre quiet. She was a speech professor, which shows. We had to do oral presentations which counted 20% and group work and participation counted for another 20%. Very disorganized & uncoordinated. She digresses & loses track of time a lot. We never got to Milton on the last day because of this!

Harsh Grader. Needs to learn Time Management & organization Skills because she doesn't hand out assignments on time. She is extremely unhelpful and unclear with what she wants done for the assignments. Asking her won't help. Is very judgmental, unreasonable and inconsiderate.

I took two of her class in one semester she does assign alot of reading and quite a 2-3 mjor papers, her term paper was 6-8 pages in both class, but her discussions are great u really see ur self talking like an expert by th end of her class even if you dont do all the reading just crank out good papers and participate! worth ur tution if u ask me

She is a tough greader. Her class demands LOTS of reading and the papers she assign are hard.However, she makes the class interesting with discussions. If you are a good writer, you will do good! That is all she is looking for...great essays.

As many have said before, she is a very tough grader. What she looks for in the papers are a heavy amount of textual evidence. She does lead very interesting class discussions, but her attendance policy can border on the ridiculous in my opinion. She marked me late when I had to leave early for an appointment. However, I still recommend her.
