I really enjoyed Ed Migliore, its a shame he got into a traffic accident halfway through the quarter and that affected a lot of students. His lectures are clear and concise with plenty of examples so you will understand what hes teaching. Homeworks are tough and not something you can finish in one night (atleast for me) so start on it early.

Solid choice for a first year math class. Go to class because the examples he gives during lecture always end up being on the exams. He recently changed his midterm style by making it all MC and adding a 2nd midterm. Beware of cramming the night before, and make sure to look at the resources he gives for exam practice.

Lectures aren't bad but he can over explain concepts which makes them way more confusing than they are. Reading the book is good a supplement.

Despite his dreadful handwriting, Migliore is overall a good professor. For Fall 2018, we used WebAssign to do the homework and could ask questions about the homework/course on Piazza. The breakdown will likely be 45% Final, 40% Midterm, 10% Homework, & 5% Participation (Aka Attending Section). Doesn't like curves, but will do it if necessary.

Easy if you have already taken calc. Not as easy if you have not as he does make assumptions that you are familiar with certain concepts. He still explained concepts fairly well though and If you go to section and put in work you should be fine. his tests are the easiest math tests I've taken in college so far. Good amount of homework.

Ed is sort of sassy and not really helpful if you ask questions in class. Concepts are presented clearly though and the homework isn't too bad. Tests aren't very long/hard and multiple choice. Section is required but really helpful.

Horrible professor worst I have ever had at UCSC. Hes rude to students and shows no respect to them on an in class setting. Does not know his own point system changed it the last week of the quarter which dramatically changed my grade. I passed but still. I dont know how hes still a professor here with his poor attitude and disrespectfulness.

Class was difficult. Went to every lecture though it was optional. He doesn't love to curve, but will and did for Fall 2018. Got a C+ in the class after the curve, but he gave me a B- I think because I studied really hard and did better on the final than my midterm, so that's a plus. Overall, he's ok. Over $100 for online book and HW.

Ed is a really cool guy. Although the material can be quite difficult, his lectures are pretty clear and hell make you laugh from time to time. His grading is pretty straight forward, just make sure you go to class and do the work.

Ed really doesn't go into much detail in his lectures about why things are way they are. He also expects you to learn things all on your own and can be harsh when you don't know the things he believes you should know.

Lectures are a snoozefest and his handwriting is abysmal. The midterm was fair I thought. The final was way hard.

A very good teacher. His classes are always full of laugh. A little bit fast on lecture but you can catch up at the discussion section. Homework is harder but not too much. But exams really worth a lot. The good thing is he only tests those basic cases instead of special ones.

Be Optimistic. I made several mistakes in the easy midterm but earned a very high grade in the relatively hard final. Work hard. Good Luck!

Midterm and final were much harder than he prepared us for, the lectures didn't help at all for the homework or the exams, and also didn't seem to care if you passed or failed

Great lecturer, but you really have to show up to lectures and pay attention to get anything out of the class. Doesn't post lectures online, and usually only answers questions from the front section. Gives fair tests and doesn't curve.

For my class, he made the midterm very easy and the final very hard. We used webassign for the homework and some of the homework assignments were hard and some were easy. I would say that you should make sure that you get a good TA for the lab. Overall, you should attend his lectures and not take his class lightly. He is funny and knowledgable, tho.

midterm 35% of grade (multiple choice), final 50% (written + multiple choice), section 5%, hw 10%. Teacher seems to be more helpful in person than during lectures, which are very fast paced if you don't review the text on your own time. Ask the TAs for help, MSI isn't worth it. Test is straightforward, HW is harder. Ask other students (piazza).

Bless Ed. He's a good guy lecturing a class of 400. Because of this, though, homework is through WebAssign, and questions are through Piazza. There's usually at least two assignments per week, with an average of 20 questions each. Make sure you remember EVERYTHING, from this class and from pre-calc -- you never know what will come in handy.

Lecture's aren't very helpful and there was a couple questions on the midterm that had not yet been covered in class (which was super annoying). Ed's pretty funny and seems like a nice guy but not a great lecturer, although its obvious that he knows his stuff. Homework's not too bad, sometimes its pretty heavy but other times its super light.

Comment:
This professor is very boring and has the most awful handwriting. 8 A.M classes doesn't help either. Sections are mandatory, but lectures are not. There's a LOT of homework, so be ready to do 30+ calculus problems every 2 days.
