Dr. Gilmore is a leading expert in paleontology, so its no surprise that his invertebrate paleontology class was nothing but top quality, his lectures are amazing and informative, his quizzes help guide your study, and his labs do a fantastic job placing you in the world of paleontology.

The book is useless, his lectures are all that he teaches with. If this isn't your major, do yourself a favor a favor and take Case instead. His tests cover the most random of things, he deviates from his syllabus, and the labs required outside of class don't help you at all inside of class. Covers material closer to higher level geology.

He was always behind on lectures, thus we always went into labs without a clue. Tests were very difficult, but he did his best to help those who were trying. He seems almost burnt out from decades of teaching. But he is so smart and full of stories. I liked him.

Probably the easiest prof for geology. He's a good teacher and he can be entertaining, but you can really tell he's bored with teaching.

I took a summer class with Gilmour. I really enjoyed the class and felt I got a lot out of his teaching. The tests were a little unpredictable, but still fair. If you go to class, take notes you can understand later, and go to the labs, you should be fine.

Ernie is the man! If you can't get along with THIS guy and get a good grade you're simply a nazi. Like most good professors his tests weigh heavily on his lectures so show up once in a while and you might actually pass. Let's face it folks, Geology isn't the most interesting subject and I think Big Ern did a good job of making his class fun.

He's kind of an old codger that likes telling silly jokes. But he's fair and easy, and not at all unintelligent. Also, he's flexible and willing to work with you. I took it during Summer classes, so I'm sure it's a bit easier, but I actually enjoyed dividing up and cataloguing different kinds of dirt when he was teaching :)

If you study the notes, you'll do fine. I get As on all the tests and I don't have the book. Just pay attention and STUDY your notes. GO TO LAB. He's a nice guy, I enjoy the class and I HATE geology. If you don't go to class, you won't pass.

Spends a lot of time on certain sections and little time on other sections. Not clear about what will be on tests. Labs covered material that he had not yet taught the class.

i felt gilmour was a very bad teacher. he constantly went off topic leaving us behing by weeks. he tested on things that were minute in detail. dont study the stuff u think will be on the test, study the stuff u wouldnt think will be on it. thats the only way to get a good grade. just a bad teacher!

This Prof is the Dept. Chair, he knows his stuff. However: doesn't follow outline, digresses too much, doesn't cover all info on tests, and tests consist of fill in blank, matching, and sketches. Hard to follow even for straight A students. Get a tutor and go to the labs.

I learned a lot in his class. As long as you show up for labs and lectures you should be able to get an A in the class. He made geology really interesting. I will not be moving to San Francisco anytime soon! LOL

He doesn't like to answer questions about the tests which leaves you guessing what he's going to put on there. Makes you memorize unecessary information.

Easy! Study the notes nite before test - no problems. Labs are interesting. He grades on a curve. Have a 4.0 at time of final, you don't have to take the final. Very clear and I earned a ton.
