Extremely nice and approachable. Is very lengthy when he talks, but you can tell he is doing it just to make sure you understand it well. A lot of homework, but it really helps. Make sure to do them. Read the book or watch videos but make sure to stay on top of all the lessons. Definitely do the test your knowledge questions at the end of each ch.

He is a very difficult professor. Go to class and put in the best effort and go to his office hours if you need help. Study the material before class and make sure you understand the material before lecture to follow along. Uses analogies to understand and gives clickers. Try your best go to office hours, go SI sessions, put in the effort.

Had him for the first half of bio 5A, second half with martins-green. I have to say he's the more clear one of the two, and I enjoyed his section more. He's super helpful and really knows his bio. Honestly, if you took AP biology, this class is basically just review.

Monotone but funny. Final was nothing like the Midterms. It was 100 questions and felt like hell. Do not study last min. unless you plan on failing. CPR's are pretty easy if you go to TA office hours and ask for help. I got a B bc I did not really prepare that well for the Final.

Dr. Nothnagel is a good professor who helps students who come to him with questions. He has a likeable attitude and he definitely isn't mean or intimidating. He liked bringing up his power points from lecture in office hours, so if office hours aren't your thing, then his power points are a good resource.

Homework/exam questions are super long but provide a lot of background info that help answer the question. Good professor overall. Gives clicker questions. Very helpful outside of lecture.

Good lecturer. Need to attend class and take notes, the exams are based solely on lectures. Don't need book. He is a great professor to get to know for opportunities and letters of rec. He really cares and is interested in all his students. Great to take advantage of if you are a top student.

Absolutely terrible professor. Teaching style is useless. Very monotone and just reads off his paper. Test material is not reflective of what he goes over in class. To top it off, he is extremely rude and unapproachable. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Professor Nothnagel is super friendly and brings an exciting tone to biology. He tires to rally the students to be excited by the subject and he tries to liven the lesson with examples we can relate to.

He reminds me of the grandpa from Up. He is a great professor; just his tests are a pain in the butt. Make sure you study. AP Bio was easier than this class, I'll tell you that.

He is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He attends almost all of the labs and even introduces himself to each student and memorizes everyone's names. He really goes out of his way to help students learn. He is always available through ilearn or office hours. Great professor. I highly recommend taking any class he teaches.

Nothnagel actually cares about your progress in his class. I hated plant bio in the beginning, but his lectures actually made things seem relevant. His tests are not easy, but they're definitely doable if you look over the slides. Textbook not needed, but clickers are. Overall, one of the best professors at UCR I've had so far.

He really cares about his students. Always available for office hours and puts all of his notes on the chalkboard. Wants you to do well but won't just give out good grades - he makes you earn them. Also, he makes you think about the material instead of purely memorizing it.

I don't really understand why people are complaining about him. They probably didn't even try, or they tried minimally. Nothnagel is one of the best professors I have had. He's a really nice guy, and I'm so happy that I was able to have him as my 5a teacher. He taught me so much, and he's always available to help. Great, dorky personality too!

This professor made Biology a nightmare for me. I went to his office hours, and he was useless. I was passing biology until the final. The final was very hard and there was a 100 questions on that final. Do not take this professor. He will ruin your GPA.

His class is the worst. Unnecessarily difficult in order to weed out students from the pre-med track. Very discouraging. Tests are ridiculously hard. Very stubborn.

He is a very straightforward teacher; he puts his notes on the board, gives examples, and is enthusiastic. Material is thoroughly covered. I would advise studying if you don't have a very good memory. This is by NO means a class meant to weed out students from the pre-med track. This is just an involved class that requires interest! I enjoyed it.

I took his research class this year. It was not hard, but took me a lot of time for waiting. His lab is old. You need to learn how to use an very old balance. If you want to learn something new, you'd better to find an 'new' lab.
