I'm honored to have been his student. Dr. Fallis is a very high-quality professor; it's not every day that your instructor holds the rank of University Professor. I get the feeling that students who struggle in 4279, which is a writing course, do so because their writing and researching skills are below where they should be.

Comment:

Midterm and final are easy as long as you take good notes and attend class. Doesn't post anything online and his essay grading rubric is subjective. If you ace the final and midterm you aren't guaranteed an A in this class due to his ridiculous essay grading. I wouldn't recommend this class to an A student definitely not worth it.

In a group of 30 students, only about 6 came to class regularly. Some of the most boring lectures I've ever experienced. Doesn't use technology, loves the sound of his own voice.

Overall, Professor Fallis is a great professor. The essay part turns out to be the part that should get more attention and preparations in advance. Some memorization is required but if you can keep your pace with the class, you will do fine.

Hands down one of the best lectures at York. His class has lot of content but takes notes and you will be fine. He doesn't use the course kit much so dont buy it. Hes old school when teaching but it helps at he writes everything on the board. He marks hard so do not expect an easy A.

I got 80s in the midterm and high 70s in the final. Yet, the essay dragged my mark to C+.. I was frustrated. However, he is a very good prof. His lectures are all you need to do well in the exams. But I do not know what he expects from the essay (which is 40% of the course load).

Very interesting lectures, he is clear about the material...assigned a course kit but hardly used it because lecture notes were good enough. He does mark hard but he gives past exams that are similar. Helped a lot with the essay portion as well.

He's a really nice guy and you can tell he genuinely wants you to do well. He is very clear and strait forward. Should definitely attend lectures. Mark: 2 tests and a final. He seems to be a harder marker compared to other profs in the department, you'll definitely have to study just to pass but if you want a good mark it shouldn't be too hard.
