OK---so I don't remember the class number...it was womens' studies and science fiction...anyway- I enjoyed her class very much. She could be a tough grader at times, and she expects a lot. If you are looking for an easy A, you probably won't like her as a professor.If you actually want to learn and become a better writer/reader- take her class!

Freshmen Experience Course--TERRIBLE. What an awful woman. Insisted on embarassing people in class when they didn't know the answer, told pointless and boring stories about her life, was close minded and totally domineering. I think she purposely used her size to intimidate people.

I dont understnad the comments that this class is hard at all...the tests are all open notebook, they are all extreamly strait forward, you review for every test prior to taking it that hour, she explains concepts if you need her too, its overall really easy. Also, the homework was there, but you never get it checked, so you dont need to do it.

do not take this class. the class is impossible. the only thing you are graded on are quizzes and tests which are of course...impossible. the classes are ridiculous too-we can spend half of the time arguing with her about one of the sentences she wrote, but she doesn't know the answer. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA!

This class was interesting and I honestly liked the professor -- she was funny, knew what she was talking about, and was willing to help with questions. The tests, however, were horrible -- there was just too much material to cover and not enough time. The class is definitely challenging, but it's still a good class.

I love Grammar-but Dr. Hochstein makes this class unbearable. She acts as if she's always right and isn't open to others' ideas. Although it's open note on all tests and quizzes she packs too much information on the tests in the time allotted, and there's rarely enough time to do a good job or even finish them!

This class is only hard if you don't do the reading. She isn't the greatest at explaining concepts, but if you read the book YOU WILL UNDERSTAND. People who complain about this course are just LAZY. You can use notes on ALL tests and quizzes.. So, get out your book, copy it down and stop complaining.

This class is EXTREMELY difficult. She's a pretty funny lady, but she has very high expectations. I have learned more this class than I have in any other writing class. Although your grade might not be very high, I would recommend taking her if you want all A's on your future papers in any other classes you might take.

She grades at her level. We are just students, but she grades papers as if we were professors. If you suck at writing, do not take this class. If you suck at reviewing, do not take this class. Even english majors I know do not do well in this class. If you are good at writing, this class will be great for you, but if not, this class will kill you.

Do not take this professor for this class. She is absurdly inconsistant in grading and has rediculous expectations for a required general ed class. She gives suggestions on your rought draft and rips you a new one for using them on your final, as if she never told you to do it. Comment:

Women in Science Fiction was fun. A lot of reading, but that's to be expected in a three week lit course. Lots of discussion. Many short essays were nice instead of a huge paper. She's funny and very nice. I'd recommend her for a sci fi course.

She's nice; she is super-patient: She explains thing thorougly, again and again until the last stubborn person understands, or decides to shut up. (even when the person is trying to twist grammar rules to prove they are right) Open notebooks in tests. Wish I had her ENGL 110- but I tested out of the class all together. Lots of uncollected homework.

I highly advise on NOT TAKING ANY COURSE WITH GLORIA HOCHSTEIN!!! No joke, she is the worst teacher I have ever had! Her essays are impossible to get even a C on. Seriously she expects too much out of her students and she expects every student to be an expert at writing! I highly recommend on switched around your schedule so you don't have her.
