Comment:

All the people whining about Singer are just upset because they suck at philosophy. Singer is super engaging, incredibly knowledgeable, and overall one of the most interesting philosophy professors in the department. He is so passionate about the topic that it makes it impossible not to care about the class. 10/10 professor, 10/10 class

Listen, his lectures can be dry but he cares so much about his students - he is super laid back, genuinely wants everyone to do well and will go out of his way to make sure you understand a topic. He's super intelligent so sometimes his speeches can be dense but I'm positive you couldn't ask him a philosophy question he wouldn't know.

Respectable, sophisticated, educated, affable, communicative, and diplomatic. I really like him because he's the reason why I like philosophy class.

I love Singer. I took him for C&E and he was incredibly fair with his grading policy, let your best essay count for 10% more than your worst essay, always made jokes and had us split into groups so that lectures didn't grow boring, and will give you breaks if you are an overall good student. He genuinely loves philosophy and is willing to help you.

Ira is definitely extremely passionate about what he teaches, but being in his class was a bit painful. He's very theatrical and it makes it hard to know if what he is saying is important or not. Lots of small readings but he goes over them in class, if you show up and pay attention to his discussions you'll be fine for the essays/tests.

IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN A!!! Expect to read and write An LOT! Two essays which are graded extremely hard, especially since there is no rubric. Both the midterm and final took about 4-5 full pages (front and back). The class is informative, although it is not worth the work for an average grade. Any other teacher I would have received an A easily...

This is class is awful. His lectures are painfully long. Tough grader, especially if you don't agree with his opinions. Makes extremely rude comments on essays. Almost impossible to get an A even if you try. Do not take this class.

He's an alright teacher. His classes are super long and goes on till the last second. Does he know his stuff? YES, but does he do a good job into teaching us those materials? NO. Overall I hated his class. He's uptight and definitely wouldn't recommend. Ohh and did I mention NO GRADING CRITERIA?

Dr. Singer is extremely boring. His lectures are super long and he goes up until the last second of class. He left extremely rude comments on one of my papers. He also said that my opinions were wrong... Last time i checked if it's an opinion it cannot be wrong..

I took Professor Singer for C&E and honestly, he made the course tolerable. He gave us really interesting and engaging topics for discussion and is very fair with his grading (whatever points he takes off, he justifies very reasonably).

I love Singer! If you love philosophy, he'll love you. A serious professor, but get on his good side and he will give you big breaks. He loves discussion, interesting questions and debate, thoughtful writing. He talks A LOT. The material is interesting but class can drag, but if you're taking his class you probably like it. Drop if you don't.

Hes a nice guy, i had him both semesters of C&E and i thinks hes better than most of the other professors. He has three papers over the course of the year and a final. I got a B and a A-, If you like reading those god awful C&E books than you should like him i personally hated the C&E course overall so i kind of just did what i had to to pass

Took Singer for honors college C&E. I HATED C&E hands down. All we talked about was religion and it was absolutely pointless. Singer is not a bad guy, I just really hated this class. He doesn't offer extra credit or re-writes just so you know.

The most brilliant man I have ever met! His classes are fun and interesting, and his paper assignments are challenging but he grades very fair. After taking his class I approved as both an anlaytical reader and writer! He is willing to help you every step of the way, we need more like him here at HU!
