This Prof. is terrible. He shows no effort in responding to students emails. This class is terrible. This course is designed to make students think and express their beliefs in politics, but instead you must agree with the readings and articles he provides. As a result, I withdrew from the class and re-enrolled in a in-person class instead.

I took his 5 week class online over the Summer and it was alright. He has 2 major discussion posts, which is graded heavily, and 3 quizzes (4th one is extra credit). He has sample questions at the end of every lesson so study of those. The quizzes are fairly easy, but what messed up my grade was the discussion posts and midterm. Follow THE PROMPT!

I took Professor Dawsons class after a friend recommended it. Glad I did! Got me current with political events. He is great with feedback. Relaxed pace, especially compared to my university history classes.

Arrogant and offensive. He gave me little to no feedback, of which none was helpful. Gives vague directions for assignments, he should not be a teacher. Avoid if you want to learn.

Pros and cons: On the one hand, he is very communicative and gives regular announcements. On the other, he provides very few assignments and they are heavily weighted. I received a high B on the final, B's on 3 of 4 quizzes (one of which was done for extra credit), and my course letter grade was still a C based two harshly graded forums.

The fact that there was almost NO communication from the teacher, and that there were so few assignments, that each was EXTREMELY heavily weighted. I was not given a proper deadline for assignments and was not given appropriate feedback on any assignments. this course was extremely biased and this instructor Jim Dawson was clearly not into his job.

I honestly just didn't like him. He's just extremely nit-picky for such a basic class. There is a strong arrogance there and it wasn't fun to be around. I actually dropped the class because I rather feel inspired to learn rather than suffocated in the learning process because of a prof's attitude. Taking this class now with a new prof who's great!

You are going to have to read 2 chapters a week and do in-depth research and writing each week. If this is your only class, its great. If you are taking a full load, have a lot on your plate, or are an older student juggling life I would stray away. Its just too much. Too much expected from you for a single class.

Do you like doing LOTS of unnecessary busy work? Then this is the class for you. This was 16 wks of work crammed into a 5-wk Summer course. Once I figured out which work mattered, I was able to prioritize and find a rhythm. Substantial E/C helped bump me up a whole letter grade. If you need this class, take the longer Spring/Fall version.

Very interesting political philosophy class. Not too much reading and online lessons are entertaining. Midterm and final exam questions are all provided well ahead of time. Need to spend time on composing forum posts to earn high points.

Loved this easy class. All the midterm and final exam questions were provided weekly on study lists. Forums are academically oriented so be sure to focus, but just like writing a very short college paper. Very clear requirements, especially for an online class.

I like the structure of his online class- it's clear and organized. Every week, there is an assigned reading packet, as well as a discussion forum. I found the material really interesting. Make sure to do the assigned work for each week and not leave it all until the end. Professor Dawson also kindly offers 20 extra credit points, which really help

Professor Dawson is very specific on how he wants assignments done, he goes a bit further with an abundance of detail that either confuses you or stresses you. His tests are very tricky and misconstrued to throw you off, unusually by a single word like "a", "or", "if" etc. Beware he expects you a lot, text books, newsprint's and videos. hotmess

Took his online class, if you can avoid him. His tests are tricky, the questions are multiple choices but the have the similar answers. Even if you go with the best choice the answer is wrong. His essays are so painful he is so picky. If you don't write it like he wants you to, you get a bad grade. Final mid term 100 questions and you have 50 mis

I took Political Science 1 as an online summer course. The amount of work is equivalent to a full 16 week semester, but with absolutely zero guidance from the professor. Reading 2 books with a total of 600 pages in 4 weeks, 4 mandatory 50 question quizzes that have no impact on your grade, but must be taken to be eligible for the final.

Best online class taken. Very clear requirements. Each open-book quiz offers extra credit. Tip: midterm and final questions are the same as the study questions listed at the end of each lesson. Forums are okay if you follow his tips.
