Definitely attend lecture. He will provide literary information that isn't provided in the text. Take diligent notes of the readings and his lectures, for he will quiz you both on specific events in the Bible and literary themes and ideas he mentions in lecture. Don't skip the readings. He doesn't cover everything you're responsible for in lecture.

Prof. Fredal is passionate about this course, and provides plenty of information in his lectures. At times his chalkboard writing can be tough to read, but he is happy to answer any questions.

There are six quizzes, one is dropped, There's one midterm and one final, each are worth the same (about 3 times the quizzes). On every quiz/exam there's a bit of extra credit. He requires you show up to class (attendance/participation grade), but it's worth it because he gives lectures that essentially recap the reading along with some background.

Prof Fredal is a fun person, but not a good professor. He is a very inconsistent grader, giving you feedback and then changing his mind. Not sure he even reads some of the papers. Participation is difficult because of the way the class is structured, and how argumentative he is. I'm an English major and this class was rough. Don't recommend.

He is a great professor. Although his lectures tend to be a bit dry, they are informative. He gives great feedback on papers and is lenient with deadlines (if you give a good enough reason).

Lectures were really boring and group "discussions" poorly organized. He's also notorious for starting class late and then holding you over time. Fredal does give great feedback on papers and the option to revise your work, though, which I really appreciated. I got a B+ by showing up everyday and writing good-enough papers.

Jim is great. He has some pretty dry humor, but he had me laughing through all his lectures. You can tell he truly knows what he is talking about. Jim's extremely knowledgeable. He likes when you participate. The tests are short answer, but if you try than you'll get an A no problem. This was one of my favorite classes, take it!!

You do have to go to class and put time into all the reading responses if you want a good grade. He had a really dry humor that was entertaining at times, however the class became repetitive pretty fast.

Took in WI '12; Fredal is amazing. His class on the English Bible was completely subjective, which I know must be hard to do. Extremely interesting, so much information; the class is a little difficult but I learned a ton during his lectures. He's funny, which is nice because the material was a little dry sometimes. Overall, great professor

For a person who really doesn't like English too much, this has been one of my favorite classes. Fredal is a great guy who really cares about his students. He has a very good, dry sense of humor. Our class discussions on improving papers were extremely helpful. Fair grader. Do the work, attend class, and you'll get an A.

The class on **** was probably one of the most enjoyable english classes I have taken. Class discussions and workshops were very constructive and helpful. Sometimes discussion of texts got repetitive and boring but overall they kept my interest. Professor Fredal is kind, helpful, and witty, and his knowledge and interest in the subject showed.

I really do not enjoy English and especially dislike writing, but this class was unusually tolerable. Professor Fredal is pretty funny and is very nice and helpful. Do not purchase anything at all for this class. All materials which you need are available online.
