Unfortunately, there are quite a few of the classes towards the back end of this SE Program that are entirely outdated, this one being one of them. Waterfall method is heavily emphasized for no reason, the main focus is on papers in this class, and you learn outdated material and technology. It's easy if you just turn everything in.

The entire class is based on information written in a book published in 1996. The other readings are written or co-authored by the professor. He tells you during your final presentation that he hopes to fail someone and actively looks for ways to fail your group project.

You will learn outdated technology even though the course description states otherwise. He knows everything so don't ever question his ludicrous methods. Be a math major and learn programming on the side.

The program that he teaches this course in, requires you to think critically and solve problems on your own for the most part. The course is designed to allow you to learn a general purpose language using a UNIX system. It is not about the language at all. Pop quizzes were the worst part of the course, but easy to assume when they'd be.

His COP 2001 class is actually 1990s C/C++. It's a complete waste of time, take this course elsewhere if you actually want to learn. He tries to be helpful, even out of class, but he has absolutely no idea how to teach. Ask an adviser for course alternatives, avoid this guy. If you can't avoid him consider changing majors, he's that bad.

Programming isn't easy, you should be doing a lot of the learning on your own. This teacher gives you the tools and assignments to get you going.

This is the absolute worst professor I have ever had. He does not know how to teach, and the class is extremely difficult. Unless you are a programming god, you will fail. He takes off points for the smallest errors. Unfortunately, he is hard to avoid. If you are forced to take him, good luck. You will need it.

Zalewski is an extremely tough teacher. His grading is brutal and, for some, it may be too much. However he will make you learn valuable skills. Alot of work will be done on your own and Google is your best friend but with his markups on tests and reports you will know what you did wrong and thus you become a better Software Engineer.

He is honestly one of the worst professors I've had. He gives few assignments that don't prepare you for anything. Tough grader doesn't even begin to describe how harsh he is on his tests. 75% of your grade and it's open note. You'd think everyone would get an A but no. Unfortunately it's hard to avoid him so my advice is expect a hit to your GPA.

He makes you work for your grade. He is a strict grader and will take points off for the finer details, as this class separates the software engineers from the code monkeys. With that said, he is knowledgeable, willing to help you, makes you think on your own, and makes sure you learn. I'm getting a lot out of this class.

Can't say he's a bad teacher, but he's fast and a tough grader. make sure u read the assigned readings or most likely you will fail the pop quizzes. Half the quiz is typically required reading questions... Ask good questions and answer his questions he will give extra credit points..

Very nice person, seems to know a lot of stuff. He's brilliant. His teaching style is unorthodox. You have to study by yourself to learn anything. But if you are passionate about the topic and if you ask questions, you will learn a lot from him. Tests are tough; pop quizzes will make you surprised. Makes funny jokes sometimes. Always wears his cap.

Dr. Zalewski is a good professor and I learned a lot in his class. His assignments aren't too bad if you spend some time on them. The quizzes are sometimes difficult and unannounced. His exams are challenging to say the least and definitely require critical thinking. But he did a great job teaching the class. Would recommend.

Janusz is a nice enough guy, but I will never understand how someone can call typing on the projector throughout the entire class teaching. He makes it impossible to keep up with the code as he changes pages every few seconds and taking down notes is near impossible. His grading is horrendous and his teaching style is absurd. Avoid. Avoid!!!

Horrible professor. He does not adhere to the syllabus and will often demand a very large project documentation update with next to little prior notice. He will initially approve your team project only then let 2/3rds of the semester elapse before telling you it is no good, leaving you scrambling to find an alternative. He should really retire.

Before I go on my rant, let me say I did learn a lot in his class. That being said, his grading is ridiculous. I forgot a pair of parentheses on my first assignment and admittedly the program's output wasn't perfect, but everything else was correct, got a failing grade on that assignment. This was a common theme for everyone in the class.

Had him for COP 2006 and 2001 hes a decent teacher. His grading is awful when it comes to assignments either his way or the highway. Went to his office hours quite a bit after class and he helped out a lot. If you put forth the effort he will help you. Also I had no prior programming experience.

You will learn alot in his class but the class and the subject is harder than you might think. Tests and quizzes are open book/notes but challenging, so print out EVERY class example and know what it means and how it works. Assignments are a little easier, but read the directions because he's a harsh grader.
