I was lucky enough to have professor Qian for two terms in a row. He is a tough professor and makes you work hard - on the other hand, he has a really witty sense of humor, and really loves physics. Great guy, could not recommend more!

Prof. Qian is an amazing professor!!! The BEST professor I have this term! He is super friendly and is always willing to help students. Actually he scheduled several office hour slots to guide us through data processing. Prof. Qian also replied all our emails (impressive! as many professors don't do that). Go pick his class, you won't regret it! :)

Great physics prof, explained difficult concepts really well. His lectures could get pretty repetitive, he explained the double slit experiment to us on at least five separate occasions.

Comment:
His lectures are easy enough to follow, and he posts extensive notes later on in Canvas that are more than enough to use for studying. The homework are mostly difficult, so go to office hours and he is more than happy to help. The exams have equal weightage and are so much easier compared to the homework which makes getting an A not too hard.

Jianming Qian is easily the best physics professor that I've had here. He really wants you to learn, but lectures at a level above most of the students. He is super helpful in office hours, which are necessary at least once since the homework is hard. The exams are a piece of cake by comparison. He also brings up really fascinating examples.

Comment:
Unlike the majority of Professors, who consider themselves researchers and for whom teaching is just something they must do, I think Jianming Qian genuinely enjoyed teaching. However, he taught to the smartest people in the class, sometimes multiplied by 2. He left everyone in the dust and simply curved to pass the majority. Learned very little.

He is a great prof. His lectures are really helpful and he is more than willing to help out students further if they need help. The homework usually takes a team to finish, but they over-prepare you for his relatively easier exams.

Homeworks are only somewhat difficult. Start early, go to office hours, and you'll be fine. Exams are just like the homework. Watch the final, it is substantially more difficult than the midterm. Overall, if you give it some effort, you'll get an A.

His lectures are extremely fast paced and hard to keep up with. Most of the homeworks assigned were of the derivation/relation of formulas which I suck at. The exams are 10x easier than the homeworks.

This class was very hard. The homework is intense, where more than 1/2 the class ended up working together with professors help during office hours, taking around 4-6 hours to complete. Also there were many homeworks, not a break for fall break or thanksgiving. The professor is extremely helpful. He went out of this way even to help us. Thank go

Jianming is probably the best physics prof I've had here. His lectures are amazing, as you'd expect from a man who's lectured 2 semesters of Jackson without notes! Can be a little hard to keep up with at times, but otherwise a clear, enjoyable lecturer and can be very funny. Picks interesting problem sets and is always willing to help students.

Jianming is GREAT! The first time you hear him speak you'll swear the class is going to be hell (he has a thick chinese accent), but give him two days and you'll be calling him the clearest lecturer you've every heard. He also knows EVERYTHING.
