If you don't enjoy reading, good luck with this class. She will assign almost 100 pages of reading per homework assignment. She can be kind of rude sometimes towards the class and she gets off topic wayyyy too easily for way too long. This was the longest 3 hours of my life every week and she never ever lets out early. Only useful part was the LV's

Dr. Safran is very knowledgeable in her subject. However, everything about this class is UNCLEAR. Blackboard is a nightmare-get ready for your eyes to cross reading her many different fonts/bold/italic/highlighted words. She can be very rude and inconsiderate towards her students. I wouldn't advise taking her. It's a hard class for no reason.

Joan was completely clear about expectations. Syllabus was very direct and she gives long, detailed agendas and study guides for each class. Lots of in-class activities that really get you into the material. Not for you if you want to just sit back and listen to lecture - you have to get involved to get the most out of this class.

Comment:
Joan is very intelligent, but expects a lot and is very confusing!!! In my class she got rid of exams and completely redid the schedule weekly, so unclear about due dates and expectations. I felt that she could be very rude sometimes and make you fee dumb. She would give random pop quizzes on readings assigned week prior.

Very open to changing her own methods to help the students. Some organization issues; start early on the final project. Ask for help or assistance - she is very accomodating and seemed to do everything in her power to give her students the best learning experience possible. Take a class with Joan whenever possible!

If you haven't done well in Psychology in previous classes I wouldn't suggest taking Safran. She does provide help when necessary but the exams are almost unbearable and she doesn't provide a curve even if the whole class struggled. Nice lady but a hard class!
