Comment:

Kathy is pretty awful at teaching, but she does curve grades pretty drastically at the end of the semester (I earned a B but got an A-). Her tests are hard and her assignments have no clear guidelines, so you absolutely have to spend lots of time in her office weekly to do well in the class. Get ready to teach yourself.

Dr. Hartzel is a great professor and leader of the department. She cares about students and makes class lighthearted and fun, even when the material is dry. She provides ample opportunity for students to succeed.

Dr. Hartzel makes the class harder than it needs to be. Her exams are from the book's test banks which makes them difficult because some of the material on the test was not discussed in class. You'd have to read the book thoroughly to pass the exam. Lots of group assignments which I dislike, but she does help if you go to her. Note what she repeats

Comment:

You have to do your work and attend class, definitely helps to read the book as well. Go to her for help with your assignments, sometimes I went 2 or 3 times a week. Hartzel is a great professor, but she will not make this class easy for you. Put the time into the class and she will put the time in to help you.

Had her for SAD in afternoon she was incredibly tough grader, never specified what wanted for projects but you learned the material. Dont need book. Had for PROJ MGMT in morning she came to every class with smile, happy, ready to go. Gave pop quizzes but told you when, read off pwpt. Schedule her early bc she's happiest & better prof. in AM. Book

both classes I took with her were mandatory for my major and she was the only one who taught them, otherwise I wouldnt have taken her twice. Very boring, hard to even stay awake. Not helpful, and gets annoyed easily. Other than that, great lady, just a very poor teacher.

hartzel is one of the best. she frequently ends class early, explains things very well, is willing to help on homework, and will straight up tell you what is on the exam. her tests are difficult, so studying is absolutely mandatory. some of the homework is a cakewalk and the rest is ridiculous, but she'll help you with it if you go to her.

One of my favorite professors at duquesne. She was very helpful in the hw's and if u paid attention in class ten you did well on the tests. The real lve applications were substantial and she made class interesting by loving what she taught.

She is typically pretty nice, however, the class is boring and it is difficult to relate the material to real life. Her tests are insane, and the somewhat easy projects are what keeps the grades up. She isn't always the most helpful, as she seems put off by simple questions for clarity purposes.

Take this class if you don't really care. She doesn't remember names, doesn't remember if you attended class, but will curve the class towards the end. It's difficult to pay attention in class, but that's more due to the material than her. She is helpful if you attend her office -- she basically will do the assignments for you.

Loved her class. I learned alot, but alot was common knowledge. I recommend her. she is helpful outside of class. Approach her with a smile and she will befriend you and help you achieve your goals. She has alot of pull in the IT dept so if you have any issues in any class ask her advice.

Good teacher, good person. My problems step from the material being taught, not the professor. We learned 5 ways to model things, when generally ONE is used today (UML). The course requirements need updated, she is a great teacher though.
