Brutal. Absolutely brutal. He'e the kindest, sweetest, most good natured teddy bear of a man who will put you through a wringer. It's intense, and he will expect a lot, but by GOD will you learn some damn japanese by the end of his course.

Comment:

Arizumi Sensei is absolutely wonderful. He is definitely a difficult teacher, but Japanese is a difficult language that naturally takes time to master. Koji's class is intensive, but it will completely prepare you for the N2 and beyond, and he personally cares about each and every student's success. Communication is key, he is very accomodating.

It says Koji but its thought threw a TA, and I was very unimpressed. They lost our midterm grades and made the final an abnormally large portion of the final grade. The final was done by a random person iv never seen. I thought I did well but my grade said other wise. Not easy, and you will only get a good grade if you speak the language well.

Comment:

Arizumi-sensei is indeed a very difficult teacher, but Japanese is a very difficult subject that requires hard work and dedication in order to excel. However, Arizumi is also one of the most caring professors I've ever had. He genuinely cares about how his students are doing and is willing to work with anyone who needs extra help.

This class is pretty hard, especially since we are westerners trying to look through a Japanese point-of-view. He isn't exactly helpful with the reading and isn't quite clear on discussions, deadlines, or project details.

Koji was a great professor. His class wasn't the easiest, but if he noticed you had trouble with the material in class, he would always be willing to help. He knows that some students don't like to speak out in class, so he will take your ideas through email. In all, he is a really fun guy, and he enjoys what he teaches.

I had Dr. Arizumi for 357, 390, 301, and while on the summer Japan trip with him, 102. He speaks quickly but it's highly beneficial, and while he expects a lot out of his students, those who aren't willing to put a lot of effort into Japanese simply aren't going to learn it, and he knows it. I'll take every class this man offers.

He's an excellent professor, one of the best I've ever met. I spend lots of time in his office because he's ALWAYS there, unlike other teachers who just go home at 4 when their classes end. He may seem like a difficult teacher, but learning from him has pushed my japanese ability WAY beyond what it would otherwise be.

Comment:

Dr. Arizumi is one of the most compassionate teachers you'll find on campus. Don't listen to the nay-sayers who were too wrapped up in just being pissy to notice this. Sure, sometimes he'll say things that might piss you off a little, but he's JAPANESE, regardless of how long he's been over here there is still a cultural barrier there. Not to mention that he just wants you to be as enthusiastic about learning his language as he is about teaching it.

At first I thought he wasn't a very good teacher..I thought he only wanted to humiliate us because we didn't speak Japanese as much as him but now I see what a great teacher he is. He always cares about the students and makes sure we're all okay. I think he loves what he does and it shows. he's a very compassionate person ;3
