As someone else said, there's one midterm and one final, both of which were challenging, but they were fair. Definitely not the class to take if you don't want to write, there are weekly reading responses to various things (1-2 pg, typed). Beyond that, only 1 big paper that's 5 pages. As others said, he is understanding and hilarious!

Dr. Mangin is one of those teachers you will never forget in an incredibly positive and lifechanging way. He loves to engage with students and discuss in class about readings and talk about the significance of those readings. He is a kind and open teacher, funny and hilarious. The tests are straight forward and quizzes too.

Arguably one of the best professors at Cabrillo College. He is an amazing lecturer, he makes you wanna go to class every day, and he makes you want to get into the material. He schedules a lot of homework and readings, although if you do them he sets you up for success. Overall if you show up do the homework and quizzes you will pass his class.

I have taken both 4A and 4B and I highly recommend everyone to take a history class with Mangin. It is obvious from the beginning that he is very passionate and knowledgeable about history. He is very approachable and easy to have a conservation with and is there to help you and will answer any and all questions and problems. This class is amazing!

So far, Mangin has been my absolute favorite Cabrillo professor I have ever taken a class with. He makes history engaging and interesting. I have never been very fascinated by history but Mangin has taught me how important is it. Yes, there is a lot of reading and writing, but if you take notes and participate in discussions, it's an easy A!

One of the best teachers I've had. There is a lot of reading for quizzes, but you only need to get half of the answers right for 100% on each quiz. He is a phenomenal lecturer and provides more than enough info for the tests (in-class argumentative essays). I did his Honors Contract, which you have to work for it and do lots of reading/research.

I will say that I don't usually like taking history classes, but Michael makes it fun while also remaining professional. He gives you multiple extra credit opportunities that really make a difference with your grade. He actually reads your papers and gives you great feedback. Overall he is super passionate about what he does and he cares.

He knows history and is passionate about teaching it and helping the student succeed. I would not call the class assignments difficult but they do require hours of work. This class is an easy A if you can put in 3-5 hours a week for homework (reading+writing). If you miss homework it gets exponentially harder to get an A.

Mangin was a pretty good teacher. If you take his class, be ready to write a lot and read even more. He likes to assign group projects and his lectures tend to be a bit scattered sometimes, however, he really knows what he's talking about. The tests were pretty hard, but, if you like history, you'll probably enjoy taking a class with him.

This teacher was fantastic. He can lecture somewhat fast at times but don't be afraid to ask him to repeat himself. Every single class was fun due to the fact he reminds me of Michele Scott (Steve Carrell) from The Office. This is the first time I didn't find a history class dull/boring! Takes lots of lecture notes each class and you will pass.

Mangin was a really good instructor. I took his first hybrid class but regret not taking his in-person class. If you decide to take the hybrid, know that you will be doing quite a few assignments and reading. Overall, the class itself was okay. He does expect you to do very good on your writing. However, assignments are very clear and reasonable.

I took this class over summer. Michael keeps the lectures very engaging but take notes or you will never remember anything. He does post his lecture outlines on canvas. Quizzes everyday on the readings, but write your name and get 3 answers right and you get 100% lots of reading and tough essays, but Michael makes the class enjoyable!!

Michael is such an amazing teacher. Every class is a lecture but he's so entertaining and has so much to say that it doesn't get boring. There are only three tests in the course and they basically decide your grade (as does participation). Though this class is a little tough it is absolutely worth it for the education you'll get!

I was very nervous the first month of this class. There is a large amount of reading, and analyzing (normal for college.) Anyway, he's absolutely hilarious! His lectures were lively and engaging. My advice is definitely do the textbook reading; its the difference between an A and a B!

Mangin is the best prof at Cabrillo. Everyone should take at least one of his courses. He has an extraordinary depth of knowledge, could teach anywhere. Talk to him in office hours, show that you are willing to reciprocate the effort he gives to his classes. Workload is standard, just doing the assignments and showing up will get you at least a B
