Comment:

Since this is Smith's passion, she's very animated while she lectures. Every class we focused on a couple of parasites and which was a much different structure compared to invert. More quizzes, one every class since we only met once a week. The exams were easy if you went over the handouts. Her leech story is hilarious.

Comment:

Marine invert was my favorite class for the major, I really enjoyed Prof Smith laying out what phylums we'd be learning over the course of the semester on the first day. She's a tough grader and you definitely have to study after every class because there's so much material but this was one of the most rewarding and useful classes I've ever taken.

Comment:

This is a difficult class but it is very well organized and laid out. She explains from the beginning what is expected of you. She is very enthusiastic and knows exactly what she is talking about. It is a fantastic class but required a lot of work. However, I learned more in this class than I have in many other classes. Difficult but worth it.

Comment:

Not sure what all of these people are talking about. Her tests are very reasonable. Study her old tests and if you don't do well, its on you. She is enthusiastic and clear, and a joy to talk to outside of class. She is the head of the marine science dep't so she is sometimes slow with grading, but if you ask me, thats not a very large problem.

Her tests and quizes are tough, but you'll actually learn the material. She's very passionate about Marine Invert, and her enthusiasm is contagious. I really ended up enjoying the class, even though it was a lot of work.

I reccommend any future biology or marine biology student take ecology with another professor. It does not matter how much you study her tests are impossible! I went to her office to ask for help and she only made things more complicated. She really should not be teaching.

She's tough! I dont like her tests or reading quizes. She needs to give us some sort of study guide. I mean, most if not all the other teachers do give out their essay questions for the test. At least give us some sort of help for the test instead of cutting us loose. Afterall, it is only an Intro class.

Who buys a leech for $50.00 and then lets it feed on yourslef whenevr it gets hungry. Class is very hard. She makes you memorize things you shouldn't need to. Pick any other professor available

The Australia WT was a vacation, not a class!!! Easy A, if you can afford it. Smith is a creative and fun traveler. Even if you can't take the course, stop by her office and ask her to play the didgeridoo.

The Amazon/Ecuador/Galapagos WT was amazing, but a little over booked. 30 people is way too many to make travelling quick and efficient. We had to make a scrapbook and take one quiz for an easy grade.

She was my thesis chair. We had a great experiment, it just didn't work out. Come crunch time, she wasn't as available as she could've been to help me salvage the data. I feel I could've gotten more help, but she was fantastic and fair overall.

She really expected us to think and present like Seniors or even Grad Students. This is a good thing. I learned better how to analyze experiments and be critical academicly. She helped me get into the grad school I wanted! Writes great recommendations!

Fun class, lots of gorey slides, even the tests were entertaining (like if you were to choose a date, which parasite would you least want him/her to have and why). Field trip was AWESOME! This is her area for her Ph. D. She's also a swing dancer.

Interesting class. Lab was fantastic! Collecting inverts while dolphins swim by. She really knows her stuff and will take time to get to know you in lab. TAs are always helpful. Excellent mentor and gives excellent advice on grad schools

Eckerd freshmen are obviously just worthless. Nancy LOVES her field, and it shows in the classroom. She is an excellent teacher--at the level of a college professor (unlike the Jr. High teacher most freshmen seem to expect). She is wonderful in lab and a lot of fun out of class to boot. And how could you not think she's hot?

Class was difficult...if you do not try. Smith is very hot. Class was tedious but interesting and labs were fun. She was picky, tests were hard, but if you put forth a good effort a "B" or an "A" is very achievable. Everyone at Eckerd are just freaking lazy ****s.
