Comment:
Taking Nagata for Japanese really killed my love for the Japanese language and culture. I could not wait to finish the minor so I wouldn't have to see her again. She wrote the textbook used and there are a lot of words that you are supposed to learn that are useless to everyday life. There is a vocab and canvas quiz every class meeting.

For all the Japanese language class that she teaches - Unless you plan to work in a museum or with history, don't take this class as you will just learn about Japan's history and historical terms that cannot be used in everyday conversations. Memorization is required as the tests and quizzes don't test your understanding.

The class itself isn't tremendously difficult, but there is a serious amount of work to do. I am quite slow at completing work in Japanese, so about 3 outside hours including quiz study time is required for each class. Nagata Sensei herself is good, quite knowledgeable in both Japanese and English, and is really a sweetheart as far as teachers go.

She's boring and lacks passion. Intermediate and advanced Japanese were basically a slideshow of her trips to Japan with an admittedly decent language lesson. She's good with helping students when they seek it and provides a tutor. You need to already be passionate about the subject before taking her class, and I guess I care more about JP culture.

These reviews seem outdated and inaccurate. I've actually really enjoyed having Nagata Sensei as a teacher. She makes herself available to help everyone, makes class really interesting and fun, is kind, and engages her students really well. All of her students almost seem to be friends with her. I really recommend her.

Intermediate Japanese with her was straightforward and easy. She's very nice and lenient. You learn a fair amount, although retaining everything long-term is difficult. Online activities were useful and pretty unique. Sometimes she doesn't know how to answer difficult nuanced questions about the language well, but was very helpful in general.

Her class was really easy, and though her accent is a little difficult to understand at times, she's ready and willing you help you if you're confused. She may seem unenthusiastic or like she doesn't care about you, but it's the exact opposite. If you have the chance to take calligraphy also, do it! Really fun class!

Quizes were easy and straightforward. She provided midterm and final study sheets which made studying for the big tests easy. Turn in your homework on time! Class requires a good memory and a bit of dedication.

The worst professor I have ever had! This lady lacks enthusiasm and doesn't care for students, conveys VERY unclear messages and will lead you down the wrong road and deny it later. The classes tend to be easy if you really kiss up, but you won't learn a thing. Overall steer clear of her if you can! pick Suda Sensei if you have the choice!

Robosensei was a good program however we had to keep going to the uni lab to use program. She talked awkwardly, and one amusing statement about the diffculty in finding good tonkatsu don in SF was downright odd.

Nagata sensei was nice, but her teaching methods were unclear. Her grammar lessons were hard to follow and I had to read the section in the books myself.

Professor Nagata is a very intersting teacher who actually cares for her students. If you ask for extra credit, she will it to you, she also arranges a tutoring session as well for her students during non-class time in order for you to actually learn the material. Although she isnt very articulant
