I really enjoyed this class and this professor. He is very clear about what he wants and he uses his own book - which made it VERY easy to know what he expected from you on his exams. I appreciated that he wanted to have us go away with useful knowledge (something you don't always get in a course). I would very much recommend this class.

yeah... probably not the 'greatest' prof. very opinionated (ironic that the class is a public opinion class). He definitely has favorites and is more Americanized than CDN. It's an okay class, just be ready to read 'his' book and suck up to him, and it's hard to get help from him. <lack of respect to students>

His first assigment for SOSA 3204 is ridiculous. No one understands what he wants. To all of you who have to do it good luck. The rest is fairly straightforward which is good and he is always open to extentiong. However fails to comply with university regulations regarding "exam" periods. Be warned.

umm..why do i feel like i am in a HISTORY CLASS!? maybe because he has spoken for 3.5 seconds first term about sociological frameworks and significance. its interesting and its not an easy class but it should be a history class. Yes he ignores hands up because he likes the sound of his own voice.he's a funny conservative though, gotta give him that

I love Professor Butler's class. He's interesting and funny and he always makes the subject matter interesting. His random stories are amusing as well. I almost didn't take this class, but I'm really glad that I did.

I find that for a sociology prof, he is a little biased and on the conservative side. One of the "old boys" of classical sociology. If you want an easy class then look elsewhere. This guy is demanding and expects a rather high level of professionalism from his students...not a bad thing but it turns some people off. Overall, he's a good prof though

Due to his oddball, sometimes surprising views on things, the lectures are always interesting. I like this guy- he knows his material and has good humour. Might lock you out of class or tell you off if you're late too often.

he is long-winded and tends to beat some subjects to death. On the other hand, he's a good guy and makes the subject matter interesting... to a point.

Bit of a windbag, I have never seen anyone who could drag out a topic for that many lectures without going into detail. Readings complement the class well and overall the class and readings are easy to understand.
