Likes to hear himself speak, and likes to give lectures... in the middle of Seminar. Would be fantastic teaching Classics at an Ivy League, but is an absolute pain in an SJC classroom. If you happen to have the same views as him, he'll adore you and you'll have a great year. If not, you'll be treated like you don't know what you're talking about.

He's a bad tutor because he's didactic & uninspired, not because he's a Straussian (although he is also that). Seems to lack confidence & can't stand students who challenge the interpretations he adheres to. An easy class if you simply parrot everything he tells you in class. Would be great at state school, not so much at St. John's.

Will sometimes lecture for literally 20+ minutes to try to sell you on his worldview. He made us spend almost all semester on Machiavelli when everyone else was doing poetry. Inexplicably, he wanted me to write my sophomore essay about Dante secretly being an atheist. Friendly and amusing, though, just try not to let his pet theories sink in.

He's a Straussian. God forbid you do anything that isn't related to Hobbes. I think he'd be fine in a tutorial, but seminars and orals are downright painful.

Really knows his Greek. Great to have around for help with translations. Would always challenge the opinions of students in a helpful way.

Good about asking for imput on assignments. Tries to get us to figure stuff out ourselves. Gives plenty of warning before quizzes. Always very encouraging. Leaves helpful notes on papers. I am really enjoying this class.

He was a tough language tutor, not always very fun but got us to study. May have been a little over bearing even authoratative durring interpretations, but i think it was to encourage us to develope deffendable interpretations. Seemed extreamly proficient and passionate about the Greek Language.

Harvard alum, but more of the type I guess they don't advertise. OK, but rarely offered any intriguing insights into the texts. Seemed nice to me, but some students had other opinions of him.
