Comment:

I took one class with him in the past and found him to be challenging. However, he is such a great professor and lecturer so I took him again. Hes a bit tough on grading and requires a lot of work, but I didnt care because I found him to be so educational that it was worth the work. I never got more than a B on his papers (there are many).

Comment:

Horwitz is one of the best professors I've had at UCSD. He is passionate, his lectures are compelling, and he explains the significance of everything he's talking about so powerfully. Even if I took his class at 10am, he kept my attention

Comment:

Really nice professor. Also super funny, which in my opinion is very important. Makes lectures very interesting, if not engaging, which is difficult talking about court cases. His handwriting is a bit illegible, but you get used to it. Definitely recommend Professor Horwitz.

Comment:

Although the DOC experience is mainly determined by your TA,Horowitz did a great job of giving interesting lectures that were note-taking friendly. The only thing i disliked was the format of the midterm, which was fill-in-the-blank rather than essay/ID. It sounds easier, but there's less wiggle room in answers, making it hard to articulate ideas.

Awesome professor. Doc 2 is very dry and boring because you're dealing with courtcases but Horwitz dissects the material so that it's understandable and approachable. He may come off as intimidating at first but he's very friendly and nice. TAKE HIM.

I thought he was a very interesting professor! DOC can be a dry class, but he made the subject bearable, in my opinion. His lectures aren't difficult to pay attention to, and they're very helpful although not mandatory. How well you do in this class really depends on your TA though, but the professor was helpful and knew the subject well.

I really did learn a lot from this class, and the professor kept us engaged in the material. Attendance is mandatory, miss more than 3 days and he drops you a full letter grade. He's an absolutely killer grader though, a lot harder than I was expecting. Expect to study a LOT. If you aren't interested in the subject, don't take it.

Entirely refreshing. Rather then merely considering the legal analysis of court cases, he takes a step back and considers the implications of the hegemonic ideologies that necessarily create parameters that limit the theoretical landscape upon which debate can be launched. Class is interactive and best enjoyed if you read beforehand.

Very intimidating at first, but extremely knowledgable and passionate about the material. Extremely keen in engaging students. Challenging but rewarding. A great person to get to know. Visit his office hours, it makes a world of difference!!
