I took this class during my first term and was in for a wakeup call. I was skipping class left and right because of family emergencies and problems with mental health and motivation. Scheduled a meeting with him and he took time to understand what was going on and he gave me tools to help pass the class. He pushed me and helped me pass

Dr. Nielsen's class was very dry--he even admitted that it was a boring class. There is a 2-3 question clicker quiz in every lecture that is mandatory to passing, so attendance is a must. There are 1-4 assignments a week, along with vocab, and a relatively easy 2-hour lab. Although, at times, confusing and boring, I would probably this class again.

Took the class, got 100% on flashcards, in lab, and on Smartwork, 90% on clicker questions, 78% and 64% on the midterm and final. The class is cake, the tests however, hard as hell. Studied like crazy before the final, didn't help. HOWEVER!!! I earned an 85.7% in the class, I came out with an A.... I'll let you do with that what you will....

The lectures and labs are extremely boring, but there are a ton of opportunities for points, so if you show up and study for the exams you should be fine.

Easy but boring class. You have to come to class because he makes heavy use of the turning point clicker system.

Horrible class. Felt like I was teaching myself the whole class. He would say to study one thing for the test but then put random questions on the tests. Had to curve the class because so many people wouldn't pass. do not take from him.

Man oh man do I dislike this guy. His syllabus was always wrong and he would blame us. He would say to do one thing but mean another. A lot of my class is pass/no fail --ing this class because of his bad directions and off the wall final/midterm questions.

I have taken a couple classes from him. While he is not my favorite prof, I have come to like him and his funny little stories. His teaching style was a little slow for me, but he is very helpful and willing to take time for students. He really cares about what he is doing.

While not exciting, he teaches the material you need to know, and if you find it too hard you should go into another field, like communications.

One of the hardest and worst classes I have ver taken. This class should have been a 10 credit class. There was so much to do. 2 labs a week. 2 midterms and a final in both lab and lecture. All this and he is a bad teahcer. What a joke.

This guy is a real piece of work. Horrible. He would spend like one lecture on a subject and make it sound like it was no big deal, and then have 75% of the final on that one subject. He is head of the Geology Department so he thinks he can be hard.
