Extremely knowledge about Japanese and will help you succeed if you want to. There is homework every night but is usually short. Exams are straight-forward and there are in-class reviews. Every class is planned by the syllabus so that is you lifeline, make sure to look ahead otherwise you'll miss a deadline. Very nice guy and excellent professor!

Really easy A if you go to class and do the readings! I loved him!!! He is so passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches, even if some of the content is boring, he makes it a little more interesting. This is worth taking for a Gen Ed, it's stuff you really won't learn anywhere else!!

Professor Thomas is a really nice guy and does his best to make the class interesting! the class involves a decent amount of reading but nothing bad and reading quizzes are only worth 10% of your grade, he'll usually let you make up a quiz if you ask him. The class easy A if you go to class and do at least half of the readings!

EASY A! He gives points for going to class and filling out a video worksheet almost every class period. He is a nice guy and is very knowledgeable. Although the class can get pretty boring I would highly recommend it to anyone. Don't freak when you first get the syllabus, it's way easier than he makes it seem.

BEST TEACHER I HAD AT ISU! He is SO nice and curves your midterm and Final so so much. The readings are in a text that he sends you, and you get 20 points by just showing up to class. If you don't even try you can get a B! I got a 99% in the class! HE IS SO SO NICE! RECOMMEND!

I loved this class! It is 75 minutes, how ever we do lecture then a movie. The points are easy to attain, and there's aren't many tests,however if you keep the lectures that he emails, they contain all the answer are in them. He is very nice and will try to help you with anything.

I took all of his classes because well...Japanese is kind of my expertise. In fact, the only complaint I have is that he doesn't make it difficult enough, because when I went to Japan the classes were much much harder. But most of the students usually struggled a little bit with the material, so its probably just me.

I took Nations & Narrations: East. No textbook but there are readings he gives you at the beginning of the semester. READ the readings. The class will be so much easier because he gives quizzes on them. There is a midterm and a final and a final project. Not too much work. He can get boring in lecture but he's also very knowledgeable.

Dr. Thomas is extremely dedicated to his students. If it wasn't him I never would've moved to Japan where I have since lived from the past 12 years working as a J-E translator. He opened the door to this world I have lived in for this past decade. I am forever grateful. Classes aren't easy but those who study hard will find it immensely rewarding.

Comment:
Chinese is a difficult language to learn, no matter how you look at it. Dr. Thomas goes out of his way to be available and practice with you. Almost all the activities are out of the textbook and the dialogues in front of the class are a little nerve wracking, but he is all about giving points for effort. Enjoyable class.

Very nice and helpful; his class is a snoozer and occasionally frustrating, though, as he mostly teaches directly from the book with few other activities. Assigns homework through the syllabus; it's quite random in length and difficulty.
