Tests are online. Class is just filling out notes which you need in order to do well on tests. Dont skip class or youll do awful! 2 papers for the course, topics given throughout semester. Class is based on papers and tests so you have to do well in order to get a good final grade! Awesome professor, hes knowledgeable and funny.

I've had mr Phillips for two classes now and honestly he's a good professor he can come off harsh but as long as you do the work the class is fine. His advanced issues in law enforcement class is good all the work is group work so make sure your group members are not lazy

He is very knowledgeable on the topic. However the tests are online, but strictly come from lecture. The tests are only 1 hours, which is not enough time. Then the final is cumulative and 100 questions. Oh and everybody gets different questions.

Tests are very hard, even if you read the dozens of chapters and online docs he assigns. He covers too much between them, if it weren't open book I'd of failed every test, still did fail two of them. Even if you read the stuff, you'll have to flip to it in the book to get the EXACT wording of whatever sentence. Just not enough time given in tests.

Means well but can come off harsh. If you dont read you wont do well. Tough grader so know what your talking about when you write his papers. Even though it was difficult one of the only classes i really learned from. And you pretty much decide your grading criteria so choose wisely.

Phillips is a good guy. Shows no sympathy for students because he has expectations he expects us to achieve. Textbook is a must. You work from it every class. If you dont participate in groups dont take this class. But i liked it and met some good people. Truly the only class ive ever actually been challenged in during class.

Online class, so I can't speak to him as a person. Material was interesting and the class was not difficult. Stay on top of the material, and make sure you take the tests on time. Class was straight forward and he responds to emails promptly.

Presents material very clearly and even though it was online, he was very engaged in communication. Knowledgeable Professor! - LOTS of reading & the weekly quizzes were VERY difficult. Multi answers, long and exhaustive questioning. Often 15 random (timed) questions from several chapters, multiple powerpoints & numerous documents. EACH WEEK!

Good teacher. Former Policeman. Lots of case studies/stories in advanced issues. However, the workload is manageable and I found the class enjoyable. He made me a better student, and person in hindsight. THERE ARE NO TESTS IN THIS CLASS!!! However, you do have to write a few papers and make a powerpoint presentation which was relatively easy glhf

SUMMER ONLINE: Don't take this class over the summer if you have a job, family, social life, or have another class. Too much is attempted to be condensed into 4 weeks and its virtually impossibly to receive an "A". Perhaps he's better during the fall/spring semester, but as far as a summer course goes PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

ONLINE: material is time consuming. Lots of reading, lots of material. Weekly post, weekly quiz, 4 1 pg papers. Just do the work. He knows his stuff and takes the class very seriously. Great professor, not an easy breezy class.

He doesn't give grades at all during the semester besides one power point & won't tell you how you're doing. He doesn't really answer emails. He thinks he's too good for you.

As far as grad-level criminal justice classes go, this one isn't that bad actually. It is one of the three required for all majors (along w/501 and 504), but you can't go wrong taking it with Dr. Phillips. A very helpful professor, and his papers for the class (only 3; 5-7 pages each) are very straightforward.

Great professor, keeps the class interesting. Presents material very clearly. DO NOT miss a lot of classes, almost all material is covered in class (a lot of discussion). Pretty normal 200 level class in terms of ease.

A great professor who is very helpful and knows a lot about the field of policing. Tougher than your average 200-level class, but still doable.
