Not a bad professor. Took his ECON 205 class and he gave out 6 exams throughout the semester and did not give out enough time or information to help you pass it. Still a passionate professor and cares about his job. Also took his ECON 305 class and is very writing intensive but is not as hard as you might think.

Best professor at Eastern yet! Had him for Justice class. As others have said - LOTS of reading and writing for this class but he's flexible in deadlines in a HUGE way. Fun class discussions. He's very liberal leaning politically but open to all viewpoints. Wonderful person and makes class really fun! Take him for sure!

Definately take his classes! When you first get his syllabus you'll think the work load is ridiculous but he's pretty relaxed about deadlines and discussions are bearable even if you can;t get all the reading done. I wish i had more classes with this guy!

he is a great guy but as a professor i think i would rather shot myself. does not explain one thing and goes off on topics not even relation to the material. test are impossible and grades them extreme hard. his papers u can bs i have done all of them without reading a page of the book. DO NOT TAKE HIM

Van is the best professor ever! He is so funny and so down to earth. he is an easy person to talk to. He may seem a little unrealistic about his intial work load, but he is so flexible with due dates its impossible not to do well in his classes. I heart him!

I took Reading Seminar when he and Betsy Morgan taught it. Amazing class. We sat around and talked about books for a semester. The class chooses the curriculum too, and we read really good books (James Joyce, Leila Ahmed's Border Passage, the Nazi Doctors, for example). And he can make great Baked Alaska too. So take the class if they offer it.

Macroeconomics was a lot of work; and if I did not have the book, I would have failed that class. Van was difficult to understand. And don't even try to get a tutor for this class, because you won't be able to get one! (Van is a great guy: not a prof).
