Very kind but has a teaching style as old as the university itself. If you don't follow his format you will fail his essays. Your grade will be brought up if you pass quizzes, attend, and participate, but it won't feel good to get a D on every paper just because of his format requirement. Skip taking his class if you can, get the C if you can't.

This professor is absolutely the hardest professor I have ever had. Although he is very knowledgeable, he treats students poorly just because of his doctorate. If you don't agree with him, you will be ridiculed during class. Lectures are super hard to follow and most of the required material is very dense. Pop Quizzes are pass or fail. DO NOT TAKE!

Dr. King grades really hard on his essays. His essay grade average is a C. If you hope to get a better grade than a C, make sure you show up to class and are prepared for any quizzes.

Here's the deal-Dr. King is not an easy professor, but he is NOT the evil guy that people say he is. Yes,he's a tough essay grader. Yes,you will have to read a lot. But it's a complete fallacy to say that he is an awful person. Maybe, just maybe, people are mad because they have never been told that their writing isn't some type of gift to literature

If this is not a required class for your major do not take American Lit with Dr. King. He's brilliant, but his lectures can be really hard to follow and his essays do not make any sense. You will never use his essay style ever again after his class. You will only somewhat like his class if you are a passionate English major and are a decent writer.

A useless professor. The class is so centered around a nonsensical essay format that it is incredibly difficult to actually make an argument in you essay that makes sense. The essays must be partially handwritten and follow a strict and confusing format that every other professor will tell you is rediculous. Useless feedback on how to write it, too

Don't like having creative freedom? This class would be perfect for you! There's a lot to like about Vincent King, his humor, calm demeanor, but this doesn't translate into being an effective instructor. Has a very set way of writing that regardless of what he tells you, is meaningless in any other composition class.

This professor understands literary themes at a deep level. Whether or not a professor gives "pop quizzes,' which is rather a joke at the college level, or gives a RA if you skip is irrelevant. He understands nuance. Knows his stuff.

This guys is the most joke professor Ive had in my life. Later on none of the higher qualified professors care about his writing technique. Also his English class should be called Woody Allen Appreciation.

The way he conducts himself is absolutely ridiculous . He insults students and acts like he's teaching children. Doesn't seem to realize his students are all adults who are paying money to be in his class.

Worst professor I've had in college. While in class lectures are interesting and fun, he has invented an absurd format for his essays that is utterly nonsensical and incredibly hard to follow if you learned English composition from any normal writer. Things like his "bill of particulars" and full page thesis statements are useless and absurd.

If you like movies and delving deep into each scene then his Comp 1 class is actually somewhat fun. The professor gave good opportunities every class to discuss what we saw and also to peer edit our papers. He would even go over your rough drafts in a great deal of detail which I appreciated. Just be ready for some timed essays toward the end.

There is a lot to learn from this man. Like others have said, he is strict and set in his ways. However, his 'ways' are basically thinking and writing logically and clearly. For those not able to take constructive criticism and rework an essay-learn how, fast. I took comp II, Wes anderson films, and postmodern Lit. All three excellent.

He will have it his way or not at all. Expect low grades. Even students with great writing technique can get a bad grade because he wants a "specific style". Do not take his classes.

Has a very set opinion. Might make fun of dissenting opinions but participate regardless as you'll get points. As far as papers go, it is very advisable to write a rough draft and bring it to see him. The rough draft probably won't be what he wants, but he will give you a detailed outline of what he expects and if you follow it it's an easy A.

He turned our Comp 2 class into a Woody Allen intensive several years back. We had to write long introspective papers about the movies. He has a unique composition style that was very hard to follow and I haven't used since. He mocked students in front of class who didn't agree with him. Don't take if you're not an English major. I fought to get B

Insults students in class who do not agree with his particular interpretations of a text. Has a certain way he wants you to write essays, but doesn't tell you. Very intimidating. Usually if you avoid eye contact he won't call on you. Has been known to make students cry. Do not read the feedback he leaves on your essays.

I took Am Lit I with this professor as a new transfer student. I have never received lower than a 95% on an essay, even the essays that I wrote for senior level classes at this university. However, every essay I wrote i received a 65% or lower for this professor. Wants a particular style, and if you don't give it, you fail. Avoid at all costs.
