I took 4 classes with Dr. Pugh. He is awesome, teaches some really neat niche literature classes. Tough but fair. Lots of quizzes, which is how he takes attendance, but he doesn't actually make attendance mandatory. Always a group project and three papers. Predictable, reliable, he's my favorite.

His Harry Potter class was challenging but also fun and informative. Lots of group work. Daily quizzes. You will read every Harry Potter book in one semester. The essays are long and graded harshly. You must know MLA. Hard but worth it.

Prof. Pugh is such a fun teacher! I usually struggle focusing in lecture classes but his kept my full attention. His class was heavy with group work, daily quizzes and essays. His feedback on essays is very helpful and offers assistance in planning them as well. Make sure you keep up with the readings and be wary of the final and you'll be fine.

Dr. Pugh is amazing! His grading criteria is wonderful & gives ample opportunity to make grades full before the tougher assignments come. He will make you a smarter and more informed person. I cannot express how much I enjoy his classes. I want to take everything he teaches. He even makes a course packet for his student full of helpful info! Love!

Dr. Pugh is a wonderful professor who clearly knows mediaeval literature and it shows throughout his lectures. Big group project midway/late in the semester, quizzes nearly every class period, participating matters but Pugh clearly cares for his students. Tough on grading but he has a clear grading outline in his Course Packet that will help.

I loved this class. Yes, it's a lot of work and you definitely have to show up every day but it's worth it for the subject matter and the level of education you receive. Dr. Pugh is a great lecturer and so passionate about his subject and it reflects in the way he teaches. I highly recommend!

Daily quizzes, so don't miss too many classes. Tough grader on papers (highest grade anyone in the class received was a 96). If you're not a Humanities student/can't write an argumentative essay DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It is not an easy A. A lot of class time wasted on extraneous stuff/discussion, which was frustrating. Read the books.

You will have to read everyday to keep up with the class. He has a quiz on the reading material every day. You may get away with reading just the translations but it's not advised. He gives roughly 15-30 points of extra credit throughout the semester as long as you don't use electronic devices and bring your books to class. He is very funny!

Such a fun teacher! Very nice and class is never boring. Yes there is a quiz every class but they're normally easy if you did the assigned reading. Also there is a lot of reading, but it is worth it. Defiantly recommend Pugh and taking him again for sure!

The organization flow of this class was terrible. It is clear that Pugh has a broad knowledge base in literary academia, but it did not translate well here. Class lectures were rarely enriching, and often seemed irrelevant to the books entirely. Class discussion is encouraged but rarely worthwhile, as too many topics are addressed. Regret taking.

This professor is awesome!!! He's extremely passionate about Lit and the classes are always fun. If you're a Potter head, TAKE THIS CLASS. There's a quiz everyday but if you do the reading they're easy A's. It seems like a lot of work but it is very spaced out and you're given plenty of time and resources to get it done. Books: Harry Potter Series

I loved this class so much! Not just the content of the course but just how passionate he is about Literature! YES-pop quizzes on the reading, but his lectures were very good, entertaining, very helpful & I am not an EnglishLit major. I learned A TON in this class! Essays were not as harsh as other posts have suggested, it is a 3000 level course.

He is very strict/particular with his grading. It's easy to lose points, but he tries to give opportunities to make up your grade on the 2 essays. Final is horrible. Review was vague & leaves you studying the whole Bible, supplemental texts, terms, and handouts. About 50% of your grade comes from the last week of class: 3rd essay and the final.

Quizzes (nearly) every day, about an hour of reading assigned prior to EACH class, 3 individual film reports, 2 1250 word essays, 1 2500 word essay, 1 film presentation, and in-class discussions. Oh, & a final that covers EVERYTHING from the semester (it was 2 hrs and 50 min of solid writing for me).

Attendance is not mandatory, but reading quizzes are conducted at random. He is genuinely interested in helping students and lets you rewrite essays. Do all your readings and expect to participate in class. Lectures are fun and he keeps the class interesting. It is not an easy A, but it is definitely worth the effort.

He's funny & encourages discussion. Attendance not required but there are daily quizzes based on the reading, so if you're not there a lot (or don't read) your grade will suffer. I sometimes thought the reading load was too much considering my other classes. Be prepared to read a lot & be called on often, regardless of whether you raise your hand.

His lectures are fabulous, but it is basically everything I've already learned prior to taking his class. Other than that, he's terrible. Terrible attitude, and extremely rude to students. His TA grades everything (harshly), he does nothing. Don't do it. Seriously.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! I dont know why people say he is so good. He has no interest in your grades and acts bothered when you ask for help. TA does all the grading and is very rude. I loved Lit entering this class and he has made me hate what I thought would be my favorite class. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!!
