He's a funny and all around nice dude, but will force you to meet outside class, these meetings are 30 minutes of him talking. in class, he talks most of the time (rambles, mostly) and then when you give your input, he'll interrupt and challenge you. He grading style is wack and his feedback for creative writing isnt great. Unorganized deadlines.

One of my most favorite professors ever. Not only is he super kind and accommodating, but his presentation of the material is intriguing. The course is lecture-heavy yet I always found myself wishing it was longer. He did a great job of incorporating videos and picked good literature for us to read. Discussions were fun and open. Exams weren't bad.

Brilliant guy. I took Shakespeare and Tragedy with him. He put together an excellent collection of essays for the course. He does not penalize for missed readings or skipped classes. He facilitates very interesting--if a little too fast-paced--class discussions. Super knowledgeable, gives great feedback, and always available for students.

Andrew Barnaby is a rare breed. I thoroughly enjoyed his Bible as Lit and Shakespeare and Film Class. I feel that he is a bit too fast paced and tries to give too much information in a class, but that is the nature of the University I suppose, it also takes me a while to process things. Very knowledgeable, super accessible, and is passionate.

A bit of an Aristocrat. Tends to stray a lot in lecture but is always interesting to hear. I loved his class on the Gospels and highly recommend it. Very passionate his work

Took the hon seminar with him last year and it made me want to kill myself. Worst professor I've had at UVM. I don't write reviews often but students need to know to NEVER take a class with Barnaby unless you want to be treated condescendingly, bored and ruin your GPA with an arbitrary grading style.

NEVER TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. I am an A student and I've never disliked a professor more. Hes a pretentious snob who cares nothing about your input and thinks he knows everything.

Rigid teaching and grading style. Drones on and on. When he asks a question, he rejects valid answers that aren't exactly what he was looking for. Often he didn't seem interested in the students' perspective or experience. Working exhaustively to memorize trivial info and ideas is not learning! I've had inspiring Lit teachers; he's the opposite.

super smart professor. lectures can be very fast paced as others have mentioned but if you can hang in there with him you'll learn a ton. exams can be tricky but he offers plenty of extra credit. Take Bible as Lit with him. great course and great prof.

Barnaby's one of the best professor's I've had. He knows an incredible amount and if you put the effort in you can get a lot out of his courses. If you're just looking for an easy grade, don't take him, but if you want a good classroom experience and want to learn, I'd highly recommend him.

He is engaging and interesting in class, but an extremely hard grader. He is nit-picky; he will mark you down for not answering EXACTLY the way he wants the question to be answered.

I agree with the previous comment. The material is fascinating and you do learn a lot! It's fun in that respect. But you will not get a good grade just because you learn a lot and care a lot. He will ask you a question and even if your answer isn't wrong, if it's not what he is looking for, he'll mark off. Ugh. Stay away

I took one of his classes and learned a LOT however his grading does not depend whether or not this is the case He tests on very random information and expects students to learn in a semester concepts that he has spent upwards of 10 years studying If you want to learn a lot take his class If you want to get a good or even passing grade stay AWAY

I took Bible as Lit with Barnaby and got an incredible amount out of it.He is by no means easy, and there was a lot of reading into complicated material, but he was extremely knowledgeable, and engaged the students with the material. Tests not easy but as long as you read and go to class, concepts are not surprises. Great class.
