Goes over some very hard material so go to lecture because he does a good job explaining it and answering any questions. Definietly not easy as you have to know a lot of stuff to be successful. Test questions are hard because they require you to know a lot of material to answer one question. No practice questions but gives study guides

Ishida is the example I bring up when I talk to people about the downside of going to a research university. His teaching is AWFUL. His tests were very tricky and you had absolutely nothing comparable to study from. He said answers to tests come from lecture slides and that was not true at all for many questions.

Ishida is a great Professor. You have to study very hard in his class to do well. The questions may seem tricky at first, but if you read them carefully, you can tell which choices are incorrect. He truly cares about his students and he wants everyone to do well. Very accessible and will make time to even meet up with you if you need help. Gl!

He is a tough tester and does not give any practice midterms. However, he is very caring and dedicated to this class and his students. He is super accessible during office hours, after class, and by appointment. He wants the students to succeed even though his class can be hard. Not an easy A, but a great professor and class.

If it weren't for Dr. Ryan, I would have failed this class. Ishida was pretty awful, couldn't really decipher what he was trying to teach us, didn't learn anything and the tests were hard. He forget to print out the tests for MT1 and kept everyone waiting for half an hour. Blamed others instead of himself. NOT recommended at all.

Really hard exams with no practice, all of the answer choices to his question seem right so you really need to know the material in order to do well. He's a nice person but his class is just so hard.

I am so so happy Dr. Karen co-taught this class because I wouldn't have learned anything with just Ishida. He is a pretty bad lecturer, walks around in circles while staring at the ground, reciting material as if he just memorized it. Lecture slides are extremely disorganized with badly constructed diagrams and ambiguous pictures.

Ishida really cares that his students understand the material, and his test questions reflect that. Taken at face value, his questions seem hard but once you really look at the details of the answer choices the wrong answers are really obvious and you can deduce the correct answer. People are just salty that they actually had to put in work.

This was the toughest course I've ever taken. I like NPB as a subject, but the way Ishida teaches it is unnecessarily difficult. His exams were insanely hard and tricky. There's no way to get a good grade on his exams unless you can memorize word-for-word from his massive amounts of lecture slides. I suggest taking it w/ another prof.

He makes things more difficult than need be and lacks the ability to convey concepts clearly. Contradictory in the sense that he emphasizes conceptual knowledge yet requires memorization of key words/phrases for exams. Another archetypal case of a researcher with poor teaching skills.

Explains things way too complicatedly and never gets to the point. Lectures slides are mostly pictures and disorganized bullet points. Tough class and you will definitely have to work for a C.

I like AI as a person, but his lectures are very boring and his tests are extremely difficult. He doesn't give you any study guides or practice tests, so you're stuck memorizing massive amounts of information and then he picks the most specific details of broad pathways to test you on. Lecture slides are very busy and cunfusing.

Very tough professor, class has a sink or swim vibe! Lectures are very confusing and slides are disorganized and equally confusing. No homework, practice tests, or study resources provided. You are solely graded off tests and they are insanely hard and he knows it.

Youtube is your best friend for all the concepts and the online reading/slides for the details. Lectures were useless because I could never follow what he was saying. Tests are horrible!!

Currently taking this course and yes Ishida is a great person but the hardest thing to deal with is him rushing slides at the end of class. We went through 10 slides in 40 minutes, and he rushed the next 10 slides in 10 minutes. He skipped content towards the end and with the majority being diagrams, it is frustrating to not know the main points.

Dr. Ishida is one of the best professor at UC Davis. He really cares about his students and provides additional office hours. Do not miss class, read the book, and office hours. This class is extremely difficult, and it is NOT an easy A.

Dr. Ishida taught the renal system and from the beginning, he said that all you need to do well was know and understand the material on his slides, and that's pretty much how to do well! For me, the renal system was hard, so I found it helpful to write everything out and relisten to the podcast! He held many office hours in order to help us!

This guy is funny, incredibly helpful, and gave crystal-clear lectures. He was incredibly thoughtful in ensuring we had enough time to study for the exams and even kept some material off of a midterm to focus on the newer material and then just tested it on us during the final. His questions in my opinion are more difficult compared to the others.

I honestly wish I could take every class with Ishida. He's super sweet and hilarious and truly cares about his students' success. He expects you to really understand the concepts, so make sure you know how to apply the information. Do everything you can to take NPB with him.
