Sweet man but do yourself a favor. Do not take his course if you are not confident about this subject. Take Haaga who is clearer in his teaching style, lenient in grading and gets to the point concerning what you need to know and nothing more. Haaga is clearly more respected. You've been warned. No extra credit, no points for attendance either ???

Gives reviews of possible test questions before the two tests. If you ask questions about the review, he may say you were not in class that day or he may tell you somewhere in the book to look. You always go into the tests not being completely sure if you studied things right. This is a risky class to take. Possible GPA crusher. Blessed I got a B+.

Horrible professor. Do not take. Just, save yourself the trouble and do not take this professor. I don't know why he is still teaching. He's not organized at all, and is very old school.

If you're looking for a humanities credit, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. LOOK FOR SOMETHING ELSE. If you're pre-med, this will definitely bring down your gpa. This dude is unpredictable. Screw the curve, screw the only 4 grades you get. It's not worth it. If you're taking the class now, DROP NOW. FIND ANOTHER CLASS. IT'S NOT WORTH STAYING IN.

First of all, he is a very nice person. The problem is that he rambles a lot through the topics and it sometimes not very clear. There 2 exams and 2 essays, and the curve is generous.

Makes no sense. Goes on tangents for all eternity. 2 papers and 2 exams. The highest one from each is worth 10x more. He uses that big of a curve to balance his terrible teaching. No one gets what's going on. He doesn't even explain philosophy basics and rambles straight into arguments and shifts between them without warning. WORST intro class.

PAPERS ARE GRADED HARD but not by him, *USE REVIEW MATERIALS*its a miracle i made a B+, scattered lectures, I hardly took notes, but TAKE NOTES. I do not recommend him, but hes not impossible

Completely scatter brained. His lectures are all over the place and left me confused most of the time. I took an intro philosophy class and was graded as if I was a graduate student. If you are a senior about to graduate, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

not a bad professor but seems a little unorganized and jumps from topic to topic, and then will sometimes get hung up on a small detail for the entire class. grades the papers fair but killed me on the mid term with a 32

He is a very smart man, the only problem is that sometimes his intelligence just doesn't stick with the students, and that isn't his fault. If you pay attention&keep up with the readings and actually prepare in advance for the essays and exams, you'll come out with a decent grade, but its a grade you will have to work for

If you understand that philosophy is the art of rational arguing, then you should do fine. Otherwise, you'll end up complaining how hard the class is.

Basically you have to show up in order to pass. I missed 3 days and it completely threw me off so I had to tutor. If you show up do your hw like he ask then you'll be fine. As the other person below noted the second test is crazy but he does drop the lowest of the 3 and takes your average, then takes your final into account as well. He does curve 2

DO NOT TAKE HIM. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE TEACHER. I had to drop his logic class because the second test is CRAZY. Does not curve even though half his class is failing.

I wouldn't recommend him... He isn't all that bad, but I find his lectures hard to follow, especially with his frequent tangents. He is helpful with explaining during office hours and is happy to clear any confusions, but I've had better philosophy professors. Also he is a tough grader.

I was hesitant to take this class becuase of previous comments. The instructor makes the material very easy to understand. The book is confusing but he only emphasizes the important things and really only used the exercises that are in the book. As long as you do th exercises and assignments the class should be pretty easy.

I was sketchy on taking him after reading prior reviews, but he actually isn't that bad. Holds a p.HD in Philosophy from Harvard. Has 2 papers and 2 tests, he'll take the best paper grade and best test grade and count them multiple times to make your grade, heavily curves his class! Only - is his handwriting is bad!

To pass, you must do the homework for practice. The professor caters only to those who understand the material throughout the whole semester, and he expects you to know the information before coming to class. He doesn't make sure you understand the material.

For lack of a better description - a jerk. Old guy who made tenure and does not care to personally assist the students "I don't do phones, I don't do emails, I don't do office hours - I like to live out of touch with reality" I dropped the class because I was bored - first test he failed the entire class and he doesn't give out extra credit.
