Comment:

I took American Short Fiction and the class was fantastic. I had no prior interest in the subject and took it to fill a gen-ed requirement. Lots of reading and participation, but the stories are interesting and she made the class fun. As long as you read the stories (all short, easy to read) you'll be fine. Papers were easy & interesting.

Had her for Honor Seminar. I had very little interest in taking the class, but she was very nice. Lots of readings, decent number of papers but flexible with deadlines. Very interested in her research and wants students to be as well. Be prepared to read at least a novel a week. Midterm & Final easy, lots of presentations. Overall Id recommend her.

Had her for American Autobiography. I had no interest in the subject matter, but she made the class interesting. She is always willing to help and had a fair number of assignments and grading policies that would allow any student to pass if they did the work. Her mid terms were a little hard, but just remember to keep notes

Comment:

(American Renaissance II) lots of poems/short stories/essays reading. Read 1 long novel- "Uncle Tom's Cabin," & 1 short novel "Our Nig." A few short papers, 2 blog type presentations. 1 midterm, 1 final. She's very in to what she teaches and wants you to be too. Clueless about technology, memory isn't great. Nice teacher would rec.

decent person but interested in impressing the powers that be--superiority complex--has favorites esp. her undergrads--interesting discussions though--shouldn't eat dinner during class--if she doesn't want you to get an A, you won't no matter how hard you try.

She's very knowledgable and she is very willing to help if you ask for it. The workload is heavy and you will definitly have to work. But her deadlines are flexible and she will always help if you're stuck.

Excellent professor. Very good lecturer. I disagree with others who claim she doesn't care about teaching or give time to her students. It is obvious that her scholarly research is very important to her, as it should be, and her time is limited. However, I took an independent study with her and received great instruction and involvement.

Inside the classroom, is great. But doesn't have much time for students outside of class. More interested in her scholarly pursuits & all of the committees & stuff she does. Seems to deal w/ students only because she has to, be prepared to be brushed off.

If you want to be treated like a 5 year old, then this is the class to take. It seems as though Dr. Singley cares more for her research than she does for teaching. Not only treats you like a child, but talks down to you during class.
