Comment:

Real great and funny guy. Gives excellent and detailed feedback on everything you need to work on, and gives excellent lectures that really get you thinking and feeling good. Even the people who didn't wanna take the class still enjoyed themselves. You gotta participate and at least try but the class is very fun and laid back.

Comment:

Every class you have to do a speech. There's 3 major speeches. He's a very chill guy and gives the impression that he doesn't take the class seriously but he grades hard so keep that in mind. There's no homework or tests so that's a huge plus. The final is online. This class is very easy if you can get over the speaking in front of the class part.

Comment:

Even if you don't do well on your first few speeches, there are opportunities to still get a good grade. It's really simple. You just have to show up and actually try! I was a nervous speaker at the beginning of the course, but was much more comfortable by the end. Would recommend this Speech class and professor to anyone. JUST SHOW UP!!!!

I have mixed feelings for my public speaking teacher, Dan Leyes. Yes, hes highly rated on here, but, he is rude and condescending; making jokes about how I was in high school. So, yeah that was my second day of it and I can just tell you he's not a very good teacher, Stay away from him!

Nice and funny guy! Grading criteria was nice and easy. Very influential, only issues is he would come in late most days but I didn't mind as much as everyone else.

Took his class over the summer because public Speaking was terrifying to me. He made the class so easy though. He gives back great feedback. He helps give tips on how to be less nervous. He also helps encourage you as youre making a speech which helps so much. Makes class enjoyable. And hes super funny and a great person. Easy A

Took him for a summer class and it was the best decision ever! He is super down to earth, and genuinely cares for his students. He makes the class enjoyable and not a nerve racking experience. Make sure you do your work and you will easily get an A!

I took this class Summer I, which is a six weeks course, and I am the kind of person who shakes when speaking publicly, noted that it did happen to me the first time. However, he helped us, his students how to prepare for the speeches step by step. The self-confidence will come in time, but it will come easy because of him.

If you're extremely shy like me and have a hard time making friends, this class will be stressful. For Summer, we had to speak in front of class every class meeting, 1-2 minutes. You have 3 speech projects, Informative/Persuasive/Demonstrative; 3-6 minutes with powerpoint. Use the outlines for guidance! Take notes! Exam comes from what he says!

I CANNOT recommend Dan Leyes enough. He's hands down the greatest professor I've ever had. He is incredibly inspirational, and supportive of his students. You get from his class what you put into it. He will make you love public speaking, and he does so with a sense of humor. (Not to mention he has a book for $5.99 on Amazon! *jazz hands*)

When he says read, don't actually read, you're just wasting your time. You better show up though, and just pretend you're listening. Literally, pretend you're putting in effort and your grade will be a beautiful A. All the final exam answers are on Quizlet, just copy and paste the question into the search bar, it'll come up.

Wouldn't say I loved the class... but I loved the professor and left the class unafraid to speak in front of others. The way this works is that you speak in front of people every class and you pretty much watch everyone stutter and tremble - some worse than others. The more you do it, the less it phases you. Now it seems easy. Hilarious guy.

I can't recommend this professor enough!!! I was dreading this class so much but ended up being my favorite class. Leyes is a great professor and is hilarious! He really made me feel confident. As long as you pay attention to what he wants from you, you will do well!!

Leyes just taught how to outline a speech and deliver. Nothing on confidence or making you less nervous. A little hard to reach Leyes by email, I would send one, clearly asking for help before a speech, and did not get any response. I did one thing wrong on the first speech that he mentioned, thought I fixed it to his liking, but again I was wrong

Only took Public Speaking because it was a required class to graduate. I dreaded the thought of it but by the end of the semester because of Professor Leyes I ended up LOVING this class and it turned out to be my favorite class because of him. Caring and Compassionate. Made class fun. Highly recommend Professor Leyes.

I was deathly afraid to take public speaking for all three years I was at Brookdale. Leyes is the best professor. Makes you feel very comfortable with doing speeches, and not to mention he's hilarious. TAKE HIM!!
